OT: TuneCore

Hi,

I'm wondering if anyone has had experiences pro or con with TuneCore for digital distribution of songs.

Also, how long does it take for a song to become available on iTunes and/or other online sites?

Thanks!

It looks like a very nice site. It takes .wav files and allows for as many updated versions as you like. You set the sale price in a range you feel appropriate out of 3 price tiers. i don't know any more than that.

Dave - I'm wondering about TuneCore myself. I have signed up, but haven't done anything passed that. I also don't know the difference between TuneCore and CDBaby, aside from TuneCore you can post individual songs, I don't think you can do that on CDBaby.

Yes, you're partially correct. CD Baby focuses on CD's. You have to have a CD to work with them. They will handle the online merchandising of it for you - both physical CD's and MP3 Downloads.

TuneCore (as far as I know) does not require a CD. I believe you simply upload track(s) to them and then they will handle the digital distribution for you (maybe CD's too, I don't know).

I wanted to release a song and do it immediately, but found that it takes 4 to 6 weeks for a song to go through TuneCore's system before it becomes available on iTunes, Amazon, etc. I believe this is pretty much the same time frame with CD Baby. So, it definitely pays to think ahead...

I'm a Tunecore client and have been for more than a year now. My band's latest release : Darwins God - shoes for fish

They've been good about reporting income. I even just had them cancel an album that came up for renewal....they did so quickly and efficiently.

The amount of time between song upload and iTunes availability has been much less than their estimates. Seems like the last one was about two weeks, but I'm sure the results vary from time to time.

    Basically, I have no complaints.

Another option I would consider for selling individual digital downloads or albums is Amazon CreateSpace. As I understand it, you get .65 per download. And it would be very convenient for many people because I'm guessing most web savvy people have purchased something and already have an account set up on Amazon.com. Worth considering...

BTW....you can also register your stuff through Tunecore with iTunes (USA/Candad/UK/EU/Japan,Australia/New Zeland), Amazon MP3, Rhaposody, Napster, eMusic, Groupie Tunes, Lala, Shockhound, and Arnie Street.

I've been fortunate enough to sell on both Amazon and iTunes through Tunecore. An interesting thing about Amazon is that the Amazon MP3 site is different from the Amazon.com site. It took a while for my album to show up under a search on Amazon.com...but it's there and available now.
