trying to get to step one - sound

I installed Music creator 4 today.
I use staff view to compose, and I have cakewalk homestudio 2004 on another computer.
when I first started up the program I could enter notes in staff view and play them back - hearing them. so I know it works on my system.
Then, monkey-like, I tweaked something, and now get no sound - even when I load a sample and try to play.
I have a feeling it has to do with "omni"? I am not getting a synth, and or can not figure out how to choose one?
Any hints would be appreciated.
Thanks.

If it is jsut a matter of finding the synth, I can help you there. Go INSERT>SOFT SYNTHS>CAKEWALK TTS-1. The tutorials, Chapter 1 and specifically Chapter 8 deal with soft synths in MC 4. Check it out. If your problem is bigger than find the synth, I'm afraid I have to pass it over to one of the boys!

Good luck and welcom to the forum.

    Welcome, Bob.
Do you recall what you tweaked?
Inserting TTS-1 is a good place to start, but we may need more info.
RE "omni", do you have a keyboard/controller connected?
We may have many questions for you, but we need to ask to find out what you see.
Give as much detail as possible on what you are doing/working with. OS, CPU, soundcard, hardware, everything.

Howdy, Bob. Omni doesn't mean anything if you do not have a MIDI keyboard or controller plugged in. It's for keyboard input only. Since you're writing the notes in the staff, that tells me you don't have one connected.
The most likely synth you're using is Cakewalk's TTS-1 soft synth. Is that right? Which synth were you refering to?
If you can give us some of the details of your computer such as RAM, OS, sound card that will help.

    Ranchobob..... Welcome!

TTS & synths can be a bit confusing to beginners.... tell us about the computer and the soundcard you are using.

    We'll go from there.

Maybe, but he seems more sincere than sparky was. He has already indicated that he recognizes he may be doing something wrong. That's always a good sign.
    We'll see how it goes.
