New - "Gritter's Groove" - Guitarbum

This is tune I wrote a couple of years ago and I wanted to add some Synth sounds. So I did. This is a little strange but hopefully catchy. Let me know what you think. You definitely can't dance to this one This also includes a few riffs from guitar buddy Paul McClain.

You could slow dance to this one. :-) It's cool! Lots of interesting sounds going on and of course great guitar playing! I love the harmonies you've got going on here. It all seems to fit so well.

Janet - Thanks. Maybe if I had some more spacey synth sounds I could make sure that no one could dance to it

This was a sort of blues groove originally but when I brought in the synth stuff it kind of took on a life of its own. Glad you liked it. I should have enlisted you to put some piano in here.

Stop yer whining about not being able to put out a lot of music!! I love the intricate harmonies in this! I think these are some really nice synth sounds used here. I'll tell you Daryl, you put out the kind of music that I could listen to over & over again. Nice seperation on the git parts and they're very noticable on my monitors. You're a very 'clean' player. I thought this tune is right up there with some of your best.

Thanks Larry, but I've had this tune in the hopper for quite awhile, I didn't whip it out after Superfluous

So glad you liked it, I wasn't sure how it tune like this would be received, but it's going on the new CD.

That's delicious Daryl, lovely moody track. I like the sound effects throughout, do I hear an Edirol 'Woo!' in there? Great piece for a movie soundtrack.

This sounded great! I loved the harmonies on this one. This reminds me of some of the doors music with the sound, one of my favorite bands of all time. Thanks for the listen, I enjoyed hearing this one very much.

Bobby thanks - I hadn't thought of the Doors, but I think I know what you mean.

    Joesph - Thanks so much.

I really surprised that folks latched on to this. I as afraid people would think "What is this!?" But then again, the hippest people around are Sonar users! I have to be out of the office all day tomorrow so I will be anxious on Friday to see what other folks might think of my strange tastes.

Bobby thanks - I hadn't thought of the Doors, but I think I know what you mean.

The intro. is a little like the Doors songs "Riders on the Storm" or it sounds like it has that kinda feel when it was played, and the lead guitar has a feel sound kinda like the Doors "LA Woman's" lead guitar intro sound only slower playing a few times in the song, JMO. Don't take that the wrong way : "Your song is totally different I know". Everybody tries to compare songs to stuff they like, and that's the way I hear it and I mean that as a compliment and nothing else. Like I said the Doors are one of my all time favorite bands and your playing on this tune was great IMO! If I offend you by the comparison then I apologize, I just wanted you to know the names of the songs sounds that I was talking about, that's all.

Keep on making up the great music! OH Btw : I wanted to say an extra thanks for making this available for download because I listen to my mp3 player while I work everyday and this one's going on my player to listen to while I work.
I added this to my sound click station and give it 5 stars also.
    Thanks again!

    Bobby

hey daryl this is very interesting, i love the guitar playing and the synth parts fit quite well
but the song would still be amazing even without the synths, your guitar playing is what makes this piece amazing IMPO.

I have to agree with you on that. This was some very impressive guitar playing. Better than I can do no doubt. I enjoyed hearing it, and learned a lesson at the same time, "It reminded me as a guitar player that you don't have to play fast on every tune to sound good", along with other things. Granted I've been playing a different Genre of music, the genre of music I have been playing lately is not the only that I play, it's just what I've been doing. Lots of lesson's learned by me listening to this as to :"This is how it's done" so to speak.

This is a great tune! IMO.

Daryl, I am seriously digging the way the two (and more?) guitar parts work together, point and counterpoint, really terrific stuff. The sound effects proved a great atmosphere, but the guitar playing is superb. The Bill Daveis-like synth is well placed, the percussion subtle and effective. I love it!

The hard synth sounds in the begining don't really seem to match the song (IMO) :-( But I like your guitar playing! Both the performances and the tones are "perfect"

And those whelping sounds? Seem to fit?

And the vibraslap is cool, but I would like to hear it ring longer.

The rain stick is a neat effect :-)

THere's some kind of nasty buzzing synth that comes in at 1:58 and exits at 2:15. It comes in later in the song too... And by nasty? I mean "artistic".

    Daryl,

Listening to this was a unique experience, because I haven't really heard anything else like it before. It's a chill/lounge type song that is guitar-centric. Most of the stuff I hear in this genre is centered on keys and vocals. The guitar tones sound great, and the performance is excellent.

I agree on the vibroslap - sounds dry as compared to the rest of the mix. Very nice ending.

    Cool tune,
    Doug

    Jonbouy - Thank you.

Mark - Thanks, 5 guitar tracks actually.

Robby - My attempt was that the synth stuff would be so "wrong" that it actually would add a bizarre appeal, which it has done at least to a point. The "buzzing stuff" is intentional. I wanted the whole thing to sound a little "alien" Thanks for the specific feedback (pardon the pun), that kind of information is what I like. Thank you!

Robby & Douglas - What are you calling a Vibroslap? I used these synth sounds but I don't know what they are called?

Douglas - Thank you, it was my intent to make this a unique thing and that maybe where I succeeded the most.

    Hey Daryl,
You've definitely got a recognizable sound in your songs.
    Nice playing.
I've mentioned the bass in your other songs before...
You tend to play the bass like a guitar player, IMO.
I'd love to hear it hold the bottom down a bit more, but that's just my personal preference,
and there's nothing "wrong" with it as is.
    I enjoyed it.

Roger, long time no hear. I hope all is well.

Yea there is a reason I play the bass like a guitar player. I've done all the tunes on my new CD with my acoustic bass, and I tend toward a walking type bass style.

Glad you liked the tune, it is a little off-style for me, but it kind of took on a life of it's own. For me the tune originally was all about the chorus which is airy light, but the verse is a darker thing, the synth effects seem to accentuate that and create more contrast with the chorus. It the end it was just strange enough to be interesting.

Are you saying you think the bass frequencies could be rolled off more?

Thanks for the feedback, constructive suggestions are the best support you can get, I appreciate it.
