Drums to Damascus

Going for somethings a bit different. Don't think a guitar would fit in this, but if someone would like to give it a shot- go for it. This is a piece I just started on using East West Quantum Leap Storm Drums. It started out as an experiment and then all of a sudden I kept going with other EW sound files. Hope you like it. John

Wow that was amazing. Wish I could make that type of music. Everything, melodies, rythm and mix sounded really good to me. The only thing I didn't really like was I think the transition at 1:30 is to abrupt but that's just me. Very good song.

Sadly very reduced studio equipment as it is... ASUS G750J, 8 gb RAM, Win8, Roland Quad Capture.

    Hi John,

    Very Nice. I love Stormdrum!

I really like the stuff you did with the strings and piano. Beaufitul.

I agree with Legion. I believe that the transition at :48 and 1:30 should have more "blend". Maybe fade the drums out while the strings start, or provide a fill.

I would have liked to hear some background percussion while the strings were going on.

    .....just my thoughts... cool stuff!

    Hello John,

I loved the whole idea. Fantastic. The drums sound thunderingly cool. The motiff in the LIGHT is sublime. It struck me that the drums after the LIGHT might be even more dramatic as now there is a NEW Element in the movement. Maybe a kind of piano laced melodic strain weaving through the thundering drums? ....just my fascination for the piece taking hold of me.

Thank you all for the comments, they are appreciated. I will take a look at the :48 ad 1:30 transitions and see what I can do. This isn't completed yet, so stay tuned. Thanks for listening. John

Ron and all, I have updated this piece and made the transitions abit better, hopefully. I do hope you are reading the full page story line so you can get a better painted picture of the piece. Thank you all for your comments and for listening. I have many projects that I am working on, so I haven't been able to listen to every single song of everyones, but I will try to get more listening in this weekend. Thanks again. John

This made me want to build a huge fire in my backyard, smoke the peace-pipe, dance, and become one with nothing... Very tribal in nature and sort of forceful too. This invokes lots of images...

    Hi John,

A very creative song and arrangement, and it has your 'sound' mix-wise.

    Cheers,

Talk about painting a picture with sound… the drums drive the listener with the force of an avalanche… only to be vanquished for a while as the piano and strings try to sooth the impact. The ambiance of the chamber music is honest and believable. I really like the depth… dry enough to draw you in, wet enough to complement the percussion. Fortunately, these harmonious efforts are thwarted by the tenacity of those persistent and intense drums… the clash with the melody at about 1:10, almost brutal in its cacophony, eventually beats its competitor into submission and we are left to the mercy of the title character… nice job, John!

    it's about the music...

Thank you guys for the nice comments, they are appreciated. I keep trying new things. I have so many different ways to go, that I get lost with all of the products that I have at my finger tips. It can get frustrating at times trying new things, but on the other hand it can be fun and interesting as well. Thank you all again for the nice words. John

Yeah I have to agree - Intense sums it up. Those opening drums were just a reminder of the wonderful drums of Japan played with such emotion and intensity. Awesome job on this one!

Interesting and yes different. I'm detecting a very slight flanger on those drums in the begining? But other drums that come in with the orchestration don't seem to be in time with it?

robby, what can I say. The drums sound fine for what it is. Maybe they have a few flaws, but you have to be more specific as to when and where. I use a beat mapper in Acid Pro 6 and this was te end result. Maybe the different sound tracks didn't line up right. I'll check it out next time I go to that file. Thanks for the notice. John

I really enjoyed this tune. Great thinking out of the box on this one. I liked the way this song kept my attention by changing from this hard island beat to this soothing sound of the piano. Different, but I liked very much. GREAT JOB!

WOW!! Thank you all for listening and thanks for the kind comments and compliments. I have to give East West credit for the dynamic Strom Drums that they created in conjunction with Quantum Leaps Native Instruments. There is so much avaiable for creating sounds out there, it seems endless. The hardest part is finding the time to do the creating and putting it all together. I am up many a late nights just trying to keep up with everything that I am doing. Thanks again John

    John

A fantastic rhythm very stirring and exciting.

Blimey, that really cuts through to a really fundamental, primal part of me. I reckon I'm gonna have to go out and bag me a Wooly Mammoth now to feed the tribe.

I really like the contrasting orchestrated part coming in almost disregarding the rhythm building to a little crescendo and then bursting again like a bubble as that wild beat takes precedence once again and rides us out.

    Excellent
