not a cakewalk format file

Hi all,

While working on a project, my computer crashed. No problem, I save often, and always recover my projects after a crash. But this time, I encounter an error message when attempting to retrieve the project: 'Not a cakewalk file.'

The forum posts I've found on this topic all involve different versions of Cakewalk- I've never changed versions.

I'm running Home Studio 2004 XL on windows XP; my sound card is SoundBlaster Live!

Any advice? Thanks!

It looks like the file became corrupt because of the crash itself. You may try opening in safe mode, however if it fails again you will have to collect the audio content from the folder and import it into a new project.

    Thanks, boten.

How to open in safe mode? I'm holding down 'shift' but not getting a dialog box or any different results.

HOld down "shift" right after you select the project to open. If you don't have any plugins in the project, then it won't make any difference.

I ended up flying audio into a new project. Aligning it wasn't too painful because all my punch points were snapped to grid.

    Thanks again boten-
