Sonar 8 has just been released, and already people having problems. Now, I am reluctent to upgrade from S7PE to S8PE.
Please, someone, tell me those who're whining about Sonar 8, are doing so because they don't know how to use it and not because of some issues with S8.

I think you'll find it's the opposite in many cases , they are previous users and to that extent realise since it's a new version there are going to be teething problems with it that the bakers I'm sure would like to hear about, things that alluded their QA and beta testers.

To Quote my most favorite thread of ALL time

Surprisingly, we've already reached stage 7 of the Sonar Forum yearly Sonar release cycle:

    1) Anticipation of the new release
    2) Elation when the new release is announced
    3) Distress about the ordering and delivery process especially outside the US
    4) Joy when the package is delivered
    5) Optimism of the new features and functions
    6) Disappointment at the discovery of new bugs or features that don't work or are missing
    7) Desire for the patch release(s)
    8) Hope for the new features on the wish list for the next release

    with props to Daveny5....

Bingo. And, it's not just a Cakewalk phenomenon - all developers go through this with a new release. Three things in life are certain: death, taxes, and problems with new software. At least there are solutions for the last one.

There are always issues with new releases, I'm having a few myself

But in my experience MOST of the issues folks have with any version of Sonar are either hardware or interface/driver problems that can be tweaked out.
And if there is a problem with the program itself the bakers will fix it. They always do.
    That's why I'm still a Sonar user.

i think they need to extend the cycle of upgrades. one every year is a bit too much.

Yeah, I kinda agree with you on that one.
But then, we wouldn't have as much fun every September-October, would we?

true! but i think we would because we will spend more time being creative instead of technicians.

and if they still release yearly it should be free or greatly reduced until a real major change takes place...........like a virtual engineer , mixer ,mastering, deliver it to the radio, and itunes.lol

    a) A yearly cycle is better than no cycle.
    b) A lot of the problems you read about here boil down to a conflict of preference vs. a bug, per se.
    c) A lot of the problems you read about here boil down to "I've never actually read the manual".
    d) Forums = chronic bit***
    e) Whaddya gonna do? Go back a version? Get 8 - its great. Really.

Yeah. I'm going to find a way to force myself to skip nine and become an "Even Version" person. Great product, but with some major features of the last 2 versions being synths I had already purchased at full price (sfz, Rapture, Dimension), I'm feeling a little like a jilted lover. (Yes, I know the Rapture version was LE, but what do you wanna bet the full version is in PE9?). What convinced me to get 8 was the claims of fixes, stability and improved usability. Doesn't look like the claims of fixes and stability are fully realized yet. I just got mine installed last night, and so far I will say the usability features are nice though. But I wasn't able to play more than a couple notes on True Piano before my audio engine conked every time. I'll keep plugging away but that was discouraging. I really hope they get things nailed down quickly. At least 8.0.1 is out fast - that's a good sign.

It's a marketing thing. New releases increase sales. Cakewalk has managed to instill a Pavlovian response into all the Sonar faithful to buy once a year whether you really need to or not.

Funny, I brought Sonar 7P first week of August. Got the email that I could upgrade to 8 for $99.00. So I figure what the heck, I mad about no notation, but I glad about instrument tracks. Figure help fund the company to. Yes I already have DimPro, Rapture, Zeta+ all brought as stand alone products, so I know how some of you feel, but I have gotten my use out of them and I do get the new Hollywood sounds. Hmm, wonder how they sound.

But, I will say this, if Sonar 9 does not have Notation / Staff improvements I won't be upgrading. I'll wait to version 10 and do the skip a version.

I'm off to install Sonar 8 now and I hope I don't have major problems.
