Sonar 8 performance problems

Hi all - I loaded S8 about 2 weeks ago and overall, not really any 'problems'! I can't say I am getting any performance boost (I know, not the 1st to say). I have a 28 track song recorded, playing back at 256, soundcard set the same(specs below).

Every track is frozen so no plugs in them burn cpu, to 8 busses. On the busses are 4 Sonitus Eq, Perfect Space (verb buss), LP64 Multiband and Boost 11(master buss). I have updated every driver in the box. My cpu runs at a steady 51%, 10% disk.
I don't understand why so high. I know I don't have a beast system, but I'd think I should be able to do better than this. Anyone care to take a stab at this? Thanks alot, Shep

What operating system are you using. If it's Vista it already is a resource hog. But in both XP and Vista you need to shut down stuff that automatically loads when you start your computer. Go to run on your start menu, then type in "msconfig" then enter. Uncheck everything in the startup tab. Then go to services tab and check "hide all microsoft services and uncheck everything that is left. This will divert most of your recources to Sonar. If this blocks something you want loaded (such as an audio driver)just recheck the specific service. A lot of stuff in startup you don't need loaded automatically.

    Hope this helps

Thanks for your reply, Wes. Unfortunately, I got 0% performance boost from the tweaks - kinda like what the optimization thread here hints at. Still running 51%.

Your specs are on par with my previous setup, and for 28 tracks with convolution verb and 64bit FX on the busses, a 51% cpu hit on that system doesn't seem unreasonable to me.

I have a mid tower running an AMD x2 64 4200 with 2 gig corsair ram and this config doesn't benfit anywhere near as much from the 7 to 8 upgrade as my Core2duo laptop that runs at 2.4ghz with 2 gig RAM

the more modern processors are going to benefit the most from the S8 optimisations. x2 4200/4400 getting a little old now that's all.

Thanks very much for these confirmations. I guess I hit the brickwall of replacement.

I think you will find that the Perfect Space is doing all of the damage. The only time I open it now is to add a general reverb to a master mix. In Sonar 7 if I opened it with just a few tracks then the program would crash. I've read other posts stating similar so it isn't just my machine.

Try the track without Perfect Space and see if the cpu drops.

    Agreed
Convolution reverb hits previous generation CPUs pretty hard.
Newer Core2Duo and Core2Quad processors fair a lot better.

I can testify to that! on my P4 2.8GHz, 2G RAM machine running S6PE, Perfect Space would really max out my CPU. I built a new Q6600 with 3G RAM and now Perfect Space is still hitting harder than any of the other plugins I'm using, but it's really no where near the same levels that I saw on the P4 system.
