OT: God Bless Cakewalk

… and God bless us everyone.

I’d like to clear things up for anyone who may have taken my political comments on last night’s election threads as racist. While I may be a passionate raging right wing conservative, I am not a racist. My satirical misspelling of America with a ‘k’ was in my thoughts and mind a reference to a Soviet Socialist conquered USA, and thus the Russified spelling with a 'k'. My address underneath my avatar now reads USSA, satirically similar to USSR. It’s a joke, my way of trying to be funny.

Some of you might remember the TV series back in the 80's about a Russified USA. The name of the series was America, spelled with a 'k'. Believe me when I say, I didn't even think of a 3k connection until I read some responses to my comments after the fact. I can see now why some took it that way, but my comment was never intended to be racially offensive in any way, shape, or form. That’s not who I am. That’s not in me. Believe me I’m all about political banter, even name calling, but nothing racial. And so...

I am deeply sorry and I apologize that my banter crossed a line that could be mistaken for Nazism.

Peace,
Tom

America with a "k" is 'Russified" ? Funny, MANY languages spell "America" like this - "Amerika".

No offense taken at all. In fact my many years living in Germany haver me spelling "musik" and "Amerika" with'k' almost automatically.

Well written Tom. Hey just so you know, I too am a conservative. There are still a few of us left that still uphold the values and principals our nation was founded on. Unfortunately, times are changing. I realized I had to go conservative with right-wing views when I had kids. The moment I was responsible for someone other than myself, I had to face reality and do the "Right" thing (pun intended). But our time is over now, we are handing the keys over to a more socialist left regime. Well see where it takes us. In the meantime, make more music and lets all try and get a long.

    Tom,

Amerika was how the leftys always spelled (and said) America when they were being funny. Don't know about anything racist you said, tho I didn't follow the political threads closely last night.

But it doesn't matter what you say, at times, but in a French symbolist kinda way it is how one hears it that matters. Both right and left are guilty of that, esp. the more partisan they are - they tend to think everyone else sees the world through a similar prism. If you are a Republican, you must be a war mongering no tax paying racist, or if you are a Democrat you must be a tax loving, worried about what the world thinks surrender monkey. Just the same if you are an ex drunk, you tend tend to think that anyone weaving on the road on a Friday night is drunk.

So, according to those same French symbolists, you don't have to worry about what the others think - that is their cross to bear, not yours. In the immortal words of Hank Williams - "If you mind your own business you won't have time to be minding mine." Still, a nice gesture on your part. Now maybe we can all go back to bashing Sonar 8.

(edit - another point that is often missed. The NAZIs were national SOCIALISTS [the central tenants of fascism], so don't let them hang that one of you if you are conservative). Usage changes, but facts are facts.

Tom: I was taking issue with you on some of your comments yesterday... now I see you're quite the class act. Nice work...

Sylvan: It always amazes me how some people on the "right" think that their "opinions" are somehow more valid than someone else's. Face reality? No, I'm sorry... You've decided you know better than people who believe differently than you do. Luckily, I spent time in the military to protect your right to be an opinionated jerk.

To everyone: Regardless of who you voted for, or who's running our fine country, the world will not end. Things will change over the next 4 years... I for one am hoping they get BETTER, but... who knows what the future will bring? We'll have to live through it to find out. If we'd all start working together, towards a common goal of "and justice for all," we'd be in much better shape than the current "and justice for those who look, think, smell and believe just like me" attitude that seems to prevail.

Sylvan: I respect your beliefs. Respect mine. Remember, we live in a country built upon the concept that differences are to be celebrated, not denigrated.

When it comes to my family, yes you are right, my opinion is the ONLY one that matters, period. I do know better than anyone else what is best for me and mine, certainly not the government.

I do respect your beliefs. I conceded we are handing over they keys. As a nation what is done is done and I honor our democratic process. My way of thinking was defeated and I know it and accept it. But you are not respecting mine like you falsely claim. You called me an opinionated jerk because of my view. That is not respecting my belief is it? You are guilty of the very thing you accused me of. Just let it go man, it is not worth it.

So lets agree to disagree and leave it at that. No more needs come of this.

Lets go back to SONAR and make some music.

Nobody should have to apologize for taking note of the USA's drift toward socialism, which has been underway at least since the 1930's. As for any comments that may have been interpreted as racist, I didn't read any of the earlier threads so I'm not aware of them. I am however aware of a tendency among many Obama supporters to interpret ANY criticism of "The One" or his agenda as racist. I expect that will accelerate in the months and years ahead as his personality cult grows.

The American socialist left - and let's be honest, that's what they truly are - has been equating critics of their policies with NAZI's for decades, but that is a gross distortion of history. People forget (or conveniently overlook) that the NAZI's were in fact socialists - the "National Socialist German Workers Party" is what they called themselves (and where the acronym "NAZI" came from). Hitler and Stalin were peas in a pod. Hitler hated communists not so much because their political philosophies were so different but because they were competitors for power. The American socialist left has far more in common with National Socialism (NAZI) than the so called "right" ever did.

At least in Europe, socialist parties are (mostly) honest enough to admit they are socialists. But the American left knows it cannot do this if it wants to win elections. Perhaps that will change once they consolidate power, but for now some deception is necessary.

    True

    You shouldn't apologize, Tom

I hope I don't get banned here too!

I might use a hip-hop slang term that's a synonym for brotherhood among our 'brothers'
    in an attempt to unify.

But a racist ? Not me!
I would have voted for Alan Keyes or Condi Rice in a heartbeat

    I'm an equal opportunity offender!

Here's a link to my "nazi" comment. Not defending it or belittling the response to it, just pointing the way.

I made the same "God Bless America(sp.)" comment on another thread too, which apparently got so out of hand it was deleted by the bakers.

I started this thread simply to apologize since the original thread is frozen. Not trying to reopen any wounds, just wanting to spread a little love.

Sorry, I had to come back to this one. I hope this is my last comment on this, as I feel a bit awkward talking about this on the SONAR forum.

You say differences are to be celebrated? Did you not just name call me for having a difference from your opinion and view? You on the left are such hypocrits. Why did you not celebrate that I had a difference of opinion? Oh, you mean it only works one way, the way you see it right? Thats when we should celebrate differences? What a hypocritical mindset.

Try telling a football team or a colony of ants that they should celebrate being different. In some sense, differences are a good thing, but on issues of national leadership it is not a good thing. Just like a colony of ants. They all work together with one mind, one common goal and they accomplish great things. If they were utter choas all working with different goals, their colony would die off. A kingdom divided cannot stand. My kids have grasped this concept. Differences in areas of leadership and important direction should not be celebrated, it is a weakness. A team concept displays that working together with one mind without "differences" is what achieves victory.

It amazes me how the left thinks their s**t don't stink and how enlightened they are and how the conservative right are ignorant opinionated jerks. Hey, I used to be on the left. Then I had kids and responsibilities. I had to reason within myself how to best supposrt my family. I work for a living. I need to keep my earnings, not give it away to those who work less or do not work at all. I have to feed my kids before I feed the illegals. If I work harder, I want to be rewarded for my efforts, otherwise, why work harder? And if millions of hard working citizens gain nothing by working harder, where will the country be? I want my borders protected from terrorists so my kids can grow up without wearing bomb protection gear.

Anyway, I am going on and on. But this is my opinion. Take your own advice and RESPECT IT, as you have so graciously asked me to do for you. If you love socialism and want to worship the holy obama on his annointed thrown, go for it. But remember that I have a right not to bow before the redistributer of wealth as he descends from on high to bless us with his wisdom.

    Tom,

You have more than made clear your apology. Be careful not to over do it for fear that the politicaly correct cannot understand your point. If they misunderstand, that is their problem, not yours. Remember that you have a pair and don't let the overly politicaly correct castrate you.

    Tom,

I just wanted to say that I appreciate the statement you made here and attempt to explain yourself and spread goodwill among your forum members. Unfortunately I feel that this thread too is starting to degenerate. Politics have no place here on the SONAR forums, people just get too charged on this topic. We'll be moving any such threads as we notice them to off topic to keep this place civil and on topic to SONAR and music production.

    Best regards,
