OT--I had to share this

never in my studio career have I had a "deal" like this


I quite often talk to prospective clients via instant messanger heres the convo

    that reminds me of hmm about 4-5 years ago.. a friend asked me if I'd do a website for some woman he knew. thing is my friend is very good at making websites , so thought it was strange he asked..

    like that offer you had, the woman in question that asked wasn't wanting to pay in cash.. my friends girlfriend would have made him sing soprano..

    your right though, keep the 2 things very separate. There's a few more things like that I've had over the years, but I'm saving it for the book..hehe..it's the same with bringing girlfriends to the studio... unless their involved in the track most of the time it's boring for em.

    LOL art, priceless! Chances are though, it was probably a biker dude having a laugh. LMAO!!! I had a similar situation, only mine was a bit more intense and in person. I was working with this incredibly hot chick who was 17 at the time. Really great singer/songwriter and I was good friends with her dad. When I started working with her, she was 15 and I knew she always kinda looked up to me and had a small crush on me. One day (when she was 17 of course) she made a mention that Dad was no longer paying for her studio sessions and that it would be on her from here on out. She asked if there were "other means of payment" accepted and stupid me, not even thinking twice about what she could have meant, says "what other types of payment are you referring to?" With that she says..."here, let me show you"!

    I can't tell you how hard it was to fight off one of the most beautiful girls I've ever seen that I could shake hands with on a daily basis! I'm a pig like most males, but I also have morals and I just couldn't do it. I punched myself in the face several times after she went home that night. LOL!!! But I know in my heart I made the right call. She was too young, I don't do sessions in trade, I respected her dad as my friend and even at 17, there's still something statutory about that and I want no parts of it. Heck, I felt like the girl was more my daughter from working with her since she was 15. Though I always appreciated her intense beauty, I never looked at her like "oh yeah, I gotta do that!" I actually never once even got a clue from her in all the years I'd worked with her that anything sexual would be going through her mind about me. So I was really taken aback by this and was totally off guard.

    The funny thing is, I still work with her to this day but had to threaten her that I'd stop working on music with her if the advances continued. She's been really good so far about this and has quieted down about it....but she keeps telling me that I'm getting a present when she's 18, and that will be in 2 months....LOL!!! I'm a tough lil guy, I won't give in. Besides, I'd much rather produce her and write with her as we are a pretty cool writing team and she allows me to dive into musical styles that I wouldn't normally write in. If anything, she's taught me and inspired me with different styles of music and production tricks. To me that's the most important and I'm truly happy about that part of it. :)

    Good for you Danny! You'll probably always have this running through your mind but you have absolutely made the right call. Her age and your relationship to her father alone are certainly reasons enough. I just couldn't imagine having to summon the integrity to do it on a continuing basis. Attrition is a mighty strong fellow :)

    Sometimes it is business ethics, sometimes it is friends, sometimes it is just wrong, and sometimes it is just not my taste. Back in grad school in NYC I drove a cab at night when I wasn't doing sound. I picked up 2 guys in the West Villiage (if you don't want to sound like a tourist call it West, not Greenwich) and took them up to 23rd St. One went inside a bodaga and the other had me take him up the next block. We were talking (I think I was the only cab driver in NY that spoke English) and he asked how much I made a night. We stopped in front of his apt. and he offered me money - if he could ... um ... service me. I laughed and told him I wasn't gay. He said he wasn't, either. Still get a laugh out of that one.
