James the style and mixing I really don't know enough to offer help but
I did like how it changed at @2:30 - it just seemed to come together.
I didn't hear anything that distracted me from listening.
Seems to me like a great dance groove/tune.

    Regards,

Wow, I don't where to start. First I'll take my platforms with the goldfish still in them, off.
Now that I'm done dancing. I'm sure bootsy would have wanted in on this one.

I like it , it's fun. Now that the mothership has dropped me off, while I was on the Muthaship, I think I spied Frank Zappa.

It's very unusual for me to listen to a song and not hear somebody in there.
Tell me the truth. Did at any point during the making of this, did you find yourself doing the robot?

I'm not going to get in to the technical side, I'll just say it was fun!

I listened to this on my computer speakers
only, so, it could be an unfair assessment.

Speaking of Bootsy Collins. I couldn't hear the bass that well, could be what I'm listening on.
If not, yeah, bring the bass up, always key in these songs.
    Turn it up Bootsy.

    Very creative.

I liked it! I like the techniques used on the vocals, I like the vocoders/synths. I like the dance beat, the bass, while this is not my style, and I would not listen to it "per se", I did, all the way through. Which is some of the highest praise one can receive! Again, pretty cool, and very creative.

Thanks all. The mix on this is a b!tch. And there are no vocoders: it is done thru v-vocal dropping the pitch and raising the formant (a trick I like to use on the Bad Ray UK stuff).

Sub: Are you kidding? The first time I got that robovox working I did the robot dance with my kids. Like 10 times. Its funny about the Zappa reference: I have to say I have never listened to him, but for years a lot of people have said I have his guitar style and quirky sense of song structure. Which is weird.

    Blimey,

This was just getting going when it faded.

I agree about the Zappa-esque type vox but sorta meets Daft Punk.

The mix sounds really good here everything sounds nicely spaced frequency wise and across the stage making it a really nice listen.

On the structure there seems to be to much happening too quickly at the front end of the song and then that killer groovin' from about 2:50 just before it fades, I'd like to hear more of that groove tying together all them seemingly disparate elements at the start.

But yeah this rocks and is by far the best one you've done under the Bad Ray moniker to date.

    Good stuff

Once again this one falls in the "not my style" cat for me...but damn there's some great work there...I can't comment on the mix as I'm on 'puter speakers so I won't even go there....I would really like to see a rock kit as opposed to the kit you used and a lot less '80's "blam-blam" (starting at 1:26 then again at 130,138,141,144,146,153,200,204,206ish etc etc etc...) those efx are cool "impact" statments but when over done they lose thier effectiveness.

The first minute is really killer.

    good work!

This was an interesting collection of sounds, production techniques, and beat-tempos...

Why all the arbitrary tempo changes? Would not that confound the booty shakers?

Not what I normally listen to, but sounds like a great dance tune. Good, driving beat, and the robotic "chants" really drive the music home..

    Thanks!

James, I must apologise for my comments... Apparently my Sound Click player or computer is causing the tempo changes... I will listen again after I get this problem straightened out...

    Everything I play is dragging...

Before going to sleep last night, I installed "Nero 9" on my laptop this must be my problem...

Very creative James! Is it just me or are the vox more prevelant on the left side? Your wild side is coming thru again. Good beat, cool sounds and it all comes together very well..

    James,

Cool tune, and I agree it's very creative. To my ears, I would warm it up some, but that's to taste - I always shovel some dirt on my mixes. I'm curious what you're using on the master bus, if anything?

    Cheers,
    Doug

    Doug:

Ozone 3 is always on my master bus, though I usually will export a wav file of the mix prior to actually aplpying it. I find it useful to check in with it every few hours to make sure I am not overdoing anything that will present itself a mastering problem.

    lHansen:

Ya know, you are right...the vox mix (maybe a glitch with Channel Tools?) is shaded towards the left. See what I mean when I said "Fresh ears"?

This an excellent production. Mix is chrystal. Progression is evolving and holds your interest. Lots of fun. I wish I could add more commentary but your beyond me.

    Ok, much better, now that I've fixed my laptop... (faulty DDR stick}
I was wondering why is he slowing this down and then speeding up, and then slowing down again...
Then I realized everyone's music was stuttering...

Excellent production and arrangement...... Sound effects are very cool, but the straight 4's kick-drum gets old quick,,, for me...

One other thing I wanted to mention: the scratch sample is not really a scratch, but using v-vocal with the draw tool and making crazy pitch curves on the 'return of the bad" phrase that was used in the beginning of the song...

That's an interesting one. Kind of Bootsy Zappa or something :-) The mix sounded good. Maybe just a wee toppy in places, but it could just be these speakers.

Not really sure how 'fresh' my ears are but it sounds like a really clean mix to me. not at all my kind of listen but sounds like a good dance tune.

It's a good mix. The section that starts at 1:55 whic is where it sounds like the song really start.s I think I would've liked to hear it start there with a revolving "chorus" so to speak that's the section start at 2:24. I really like the "windpipe" sound progression too.

"Hunt" is fantastic. I loved it.

James - Great job on mastering this. It definitely has the club feel, with that kicking drum. So the production is right on.

A nit regarding song (which you might not have any say over), I'm wanting to hear more of that cycling synth/vocal/<enter value here>, such as what's going on at 2:24 or at 2:38 or some of the stuff that's going on at the end of the song, but that's just a preference.

Some parts reminded me of a Techno Rick James.
