EZ Drummer and Sonar

Yikes!

I stayed up waaaaay too late last night setting up a mixing template for Sonar by incorporating multi-tracks (for each drum element in EZ) and a lot of the routing and presets included in Jonas's Mixing Template. It made my brain hurt, but I plan to save this as a template I can use again and again.

I'm curious about what people do when using EZ in the multi-track cofiguration in Sonar.

During the mix process, do you ever bounce all of the EZ tracks to audio tracks or just leave them being triggered by the midi track (with effects applied to the various tracks) throughout the process? I'm inclined not to bother to ever bounce these down before the final mixdown.

Your thoughts?

i will bounce to audio if my PC is having problems during playback, but otherwise, it is great to be able to add reverb to the snare, and EQ to the overhead. i also might send the snare to my snare buss that may be being shared with different snares from Battery, if i'm trying to create one big massive snare amalgamation. definitely save that template; i remember how difficult is was for me to make it originally as well!

I tend to put temporary EQ & FX on all my MIDI tracks while I'm building the song.

When it comes to mixing it, I'll bounce all the MIDI down to audio, WITHOUT EQ, FX or envelopes and start the mix again.

If I really like any of the settings, it's easy to save EQ & FX settings as a preset, then import thme into the audio tracks.

Once that's done, I just archive the MIDI & associated audio tracks to keep things more manageable in the track/console view.

I run my EZDrummer in Multi-out just so I can get decent volume differences when i'm still recording a track.
Then, I'll bounce each Out to it's own Audio track just for my own comfort with waveforms. I find it helps to use the Multi Outs, so I can get the hi-hat blending with the Snare Track (for ex)... I like the drums to be on separate tracks for mixing ease, but I like a little bleed for realism.

I freeze them and then unbypass the effects bin to add effects. The effectsi/plugins i use are always different in every song, so i cant go into how i do it, unless you pick a specific song ive done.

    Thanks for the posts!

It appears everyone has their own way of doing things and that there is certainly no "best" way.

I'm trying to get things a little more standardized in my mixing process because every time I start a new mix I feel like am "re-inventing the wheel."

    Thanks!
