Cakewalk's Loops

Hello all. Are the Cakewalk Drum Loops worth looking into? Do they cut through well? I believe they sell for around $50-ish . . .

I had no idea they had their own branded drum loops. Where can they be found?

Here you go mate - http://www.cakewalk.com/Products/Loops/default.asp

I can't seem to find any sample downloads Bryan, it might be worthwhile asking your question over in the Software forum.

    Hi,
You can also grab a bunch of free loops that will work in GT here... http://www.smartloops.com/Free/

Thanks guys. Yeah, I'll try over in the software forum. They seem a bit steep though consider the prices of Sony's loop cd's.

Thanks for the link Frank - I already got those (love the free ones).

Hey guys, not to kill this drum loops thing to death - but what drum loops seem to need the less effects and sit best in a mix on they're own? I know that they will need some coloring and what not, but which seems to fit the best un-processed? I believe the top loopers out there are Drums on Demand and BetaMonkey and I will probably choose from these. Thanks.

Bryan, I used SmartLoops 'Dry Studio Kit' with GTP2 and they are exactly that - dry.

Fortunately, the CD came with 'single shot' samples of all the drum instruments - Doc helped me out by processing them all separately to give them the much needed oomph; I used the FruityLoop sequencer that came with GTP2 to make my own ACID loops from these samples.

The trouble is with an unprocessed drum loop, it's almost impossible to add anything more than a little compression and reverb - you obviously can't process the snare, for example, in isolation to the rest of the loop.

For my money, I'd do exactly what your planning to do and get some samples that have already been treated.

Just one other thought, what I would definitely recommend is that if it looks like you're going to be spending a fair bit on buying loops in wave file format, you might consider upgrading from GT to SONAR Home Studio 7 (or Home Studio 7XL).

Apart from all the other goodies, you'll get a MIDI drum kit included which will give you far better sounding drums with much more flexibility.

The upgrade to HS7 as a registered Cakewalk user is just $79 (or $129 to get HS7XL, which has a lot of very nice extras bundled) - to me if you had the choice of buying some wave samples for about that sort of price - the upgrade is by far the better option.

What style of music? I ask because in my experience I have found the betamokey series to be quite good and somewhat inexpensive.

Thought I'd through this out there. I have Betamonkey Double Bass Mania up for grabs to anyone who wants it. Simply pay the cost of shipping. I don't use loops anymore so it's just sitting collecting dust.

Thanks for the info Steve. I'll keep that in consideration.

Thanks for the offer Doc. I'm not much of a double kick kind of guy, but I do play hard rock to single kick metal. Are there any single kick loops on there? How much for shipping?

    Hi Steve,

Don't know if you've seen them yet, but SL now has MultiTrack drum loops so you can process all the individual drum parts anyway you like. They stretch to your project tempo just like stereo loops. Check them out here... http://www.smartloops.com/products/multitracks/

Thanks for the heads up Frank.

I use EZ Drummer now but I'll be sure to check those out - it's a great idea for those without MIDI capability and I'll be happy to pass on that information and link in future
