    Okay, I'll take number 3.

Lets say you have a song recorded. Now, there is a guitar track in the song that you would like to be quieter in some parts, and louder in others. You right click the fader, and click enable automation. Then you click the automation button in the transport control window. Now you start the song in play mode, and "ride" the fader, lowering and raising in the spots you want. When the song is complete, right click the fader again, and disable the automation. Now you have a volume "envelope" on that track. As you play it back, you will see the fader move. It has now been "automated".

Check out a thread by RobertB, called "using busses", I think.

There are alot of other uses for automation, especially when combined with busses, but read that thread first and then the rest will be easier to wrap your head around.

    I'll take 2.

An envelope as it applies to GTP3 is an area of data that has an effect, or audio (volume or panning) control which is applied to the data within the envelope area. That's about as easy as I can make it. Within this area you can change the parameters of the audio volume, panning or effect applied. In a way it is very similar to automation control.

    Hey Bryan,

It's an RR5 the wife bought for me last year. Sports a Seymour Duncan SH-4 JB in the bridge and a SH-2N in the neck. It is definitely one of my favorites though a hardtail (I've played Floyd Rose equipped guitars since the '80's).
