Kontakt Amp Pan question

Gentlemen:

Under the wrench icon in Kontakt is an Amp section containing Volume and Pan. When I pan, there is an audible change but when I reaching 100% right, it's not all in the right side - so what's it actually panning?

Thanks - rev

    ?

It does here. Make sure the edit all groups icon is lit; otherwise you're just editing one group.

    e:

It is lit, and I'm not really editing anything, just turning the Pan pot.

I don't mind, I think it sounds better cranked all the way round but I'm curious about why it doesn't all end up on one side.

If you just want to pan, you can use the slider, next to the Mute button on the main instrument header.

Yep, understood. But what's the Amp section Pan doing?

The Amp section is like the amp on your guitar. The guitar amp knob is affecting the sound of that entire instrument, but with Kontakt, many groups make up an instrument, so as ew said above, in order for the amp section to work across the whole instrument you must have edit all groups turned on. Normally you would only use the Amp section when creating an instrument or editing an instrument. So normally to change the loudness or pan you'd use the sliders in the main instrument header. Once I had an instrument I purchased, and it was recorded at a low volume. When I maxed out the volume slider on top, it still was too low. That's when I turned to the Amp section, and turned up the volume, making sure edit all groups was lit. I use the Amp section more when creating an instrument. I might want some of the groups to pan one way or another, or maybe I want to modulate the volume of some or all groups, using an LFO. There's a lot of creative things you can do with it.

Edit all Groups is lit but Pan still doesn't work as you'd expect. I guess I'll have to play with it. I try not to mess around in Kontakt because it's a whole new disease and I'm already baffled by half of Sonar's features. I have a manual somewhere, I'll check it out.

    Thanks!
