Punch Recording

Can someone tell what I'm doing wrong please? I'm punch recording a portion of a track but instead of it replacing what was there when I play it back it has both the previous recording and the new punched in recording.

Thanks,
Faithfender

Make sure it's set to overwrite, not sound on sound.

The way to do that: Click on Transport>Record Options>select Overwrite (instead of sound on sound). You may have to close and re-open Sonar for it to work

oh yeah this is a GT forum, oops

Okay Kain and mcourter.. I just thought the punching would do it automatically. The overwrite worked and making a fist hepped a lil too.

Thanks, I'll probably need some more advise later.

For the life of me I don't understand why 'Sound on Sound (Blend)' is the default setting for this. IMHO it's counter-intuitive and a PITA to have to change it every time you start a new project.

It'd be nice to have a way to set your own global default settings.

Hi Dr Bass MD (great name!) - welcome to the forum.

In addition to setting what is available in the Global Options, one way to have GT open up exacltly how you want it every time is to open a new project, make all the adjustments (such as the 'punch' overwrite) you want, and then save the project as a 'template'.

Now anytime you want to use those settings, open up your template and 'save as' the name of your new project. Just to be on the safe side and to prevent saving your template, save the original read only.
