Coming out of the dark agaes

Free from pc hell at last- I have done my last battle against the underpowered DAW! So excited that I placed my order for a new system from Jim Roseberry. Should see it within 10 days or so.

· Intel Core2Quad Q9550 (quad core @ 3.4GHz) · P35 chipset motherboard w/Firewire & USB 2.0 · 4 GB DDR2 · 250 & 500 GB Hard Drives · Nvidia dual head video w/512MB · 20x Lite-on DVD/RW (w/Nero Essentials) · 4U Rack case with 650w PS

Can't wait to wade into my projects with all that POWER!! Sorry if this seems a little 'kid at Christmas'ish, but I've suffered mightily w/ my old DAWG of late... And my wife said I could!!!! - Shep

Any words of wisdom for me?

Excellent decision. You'll be glad you got a system from Jim.

I purchased a DAW from Jim over the summer and it has been rock solid with tons of resources to spare.

    Enjoy!

    Just curious--

Which OS? Did you take the 64-bit plunge or stick with XP?

Jim recommended XP at the time of my purchase.

Jim still recommends XP Pro, so that's good enough for me. I am breathing sighs of relief though it's yet to be assembled!

I don't have any migration background - he's putting in a drive to record to, but all my current projects are on my old drive. Also. all my 'my docs' stuff will have to come over. Any resource pages you guys can point me to? Thanks, Shep

    Have fun with it.

Jim built a similar setup for me this summer... It completely changed my workflow.

I just got my second computer setup from Jim--but I decided that we do Vista this time. So far no troubles, and he's been there for some "after the sale"questions.

    Highly recommended.

Just hook the drive up to one of the open IDE/SATA slots on your new machine and copy your data from the old to the new. Or, just keep in there and use it for additional storage.

That's probably the fastest way. Another option is to do some simple IP networking, create a share and copy stuff over to the new box. Easier setup but could take a bit longer depending on how much data you are moving.

    Congrats!

A new properly built PC opened up my world to lower latency, more soft synths...it let me focus on the music again.

Oh yeah! I have been real happy with my Studio Cat computer. But more than that, Jim's before, during and after the sale service is great. A little over a year ago, I moved from a 3.2 Hyperthreading DAW to a Quad Core, all decked out, and it was a huge difference in performance. Jim's the man.

I still remember the day my wife said, "With the twins due soon we are going to need an extra bedroom. Maybe now would be a good time to build that studio space you have been wanting?" I don't think she has ever seen me move so quickly on anything! ;-)
