Most STABLE fw interface: $500 range?

This has certainly been discussed, but I have some specific questions related to my setup and intended use?

I own a FF800 and a Konnect24D. The fireface stays in my studio rack and the Konnect stays in my office at work.

I am in the market for a third interface. The sole purpose of this one will be for use on stage. (tracks, loops, maybe a softsynth here and there)

I need as many outputs as possible to give FOH. 8 would be ideal. 4 or 6 would be ok. Number of inputs is less important.

I'm on Sonar 7PE, and LIVE 6.
My laptop is a PC (xp) from ADK pro audio.

My budget is in the $500 range.

My number one need is stability I don't want things to crash when I'm on stage!

Right now, the Motu ultralite is looking to be the best option in this range.

Does anyone have suggestions for other units that I should look into?

Thanks!

Defining stable is like defining Love... it means different things to different people at different times. I'd have a tough time with this recommendation, and I totally respect the MOTU users above's experience. Oddly enough for me, I have (had) a MOTU Traveller that I had nothing but problems with on two systems - go figure. Again, I concur with CJ and the others on this one. I'm just MOTU challenged I think.

Fireface 400.. you won´t regret the few extra $$$. If you like stability, you will like the FF 400, then it likes you back (probably)

What FW controller was used on those two systems?
If Via, Agere, Ricoh, or other "non TI" chipset controller... than the above isn't too surprising.

    @OP:
Starting with a good TI chipset FW controller is about 70% of the battle. Sometimes you get lucky with a "rogue" chipset FW controller... but the odds are against it.
Pair a RME, MOTU, or Edirol FW audio interface with a good TI chipset FW controller.
Assuming the rest of your config is sound... you'll have a rock-solid setup.

    Jim:
Much searchable history here with my Traveler. All TI chipsets, other interfaces working fine, RME, M-AUDIO, Yamaha, Presonus, etc. Like I said, it must have just been me and MOTU.

I have the Motu Ultralight (got it a few weeks back) and it fixed all sorts of stability headaches for me. (I run Sonar 7 SE on Vista Home Premium) My system runs pretty well now, and I really like the unit. I give it thumbs up!

He already owns a FF800 so I'm sure he knows how they work. He was just looking for something of lower price range that was stable too, thats all.

I've used a couple of interfaces and they've always been stable - I'm supposedly moving up the interface food chain but they kinda all seem the same in the final sound that gets onto Sonar

Is it sometimes the PC it is attached to?

    FWIW
Got and Edirol FA-101 and love it! Best interface I have had by far, aside from some features in my Yamaha DSP Factory.
