[Answered] "Normal Template" and Instrument Track

Okay, I'm embarrased that I have to ask this, but I wondering what the "new" normal template includes. In MC 4, it would insert 1 audio track, 1 midi track and a bus. In SHS 7, there are 2 audio tracks, one right, one left, no midi tracks and 2 instances of TTS-1; one with a piano icon and one with a drum set icon. I am wondering what the differences are in the TTS inserts? I guess I've only every used one or I would know the difference. In my own defense, I'm still pretty new at this stuff.

Also, I"ve heard about the new "instrument track". Can someone fill me in on this as well.

Thanks.
Annette

    Bump...

Can any one tell me the "normal" template includes as detailed above?

Also, "instrument tracks are new to me as well? I'm guessing that the normal template may be instrument tracks.

    Thanks.

    Hi Annette

The HS7 'Normal' template loads the following:

    2 × Audio tracks
    2 × MIDI Instrument tracks
    1 × Stereo Bus
    1 × Effect Send
    1 × Master Bus

The two audio tracks, although designated 'Left' and 'Right' are both panned dead centre when you open the template.

Both MIDI tracks have an instance of the TTS-1 already inserted, the first has the default 'Piano 1' pre-loaded, the second has the TTS-1 Drums loaded. In the PRV, the drum preset has the names of all the percussion instruments already loaded instead of the keyboard.

All four tracks are routed to the Master Bus by default, as are the other two 'busses' - namely Subgroup 1 and Effect Send 1.

It's a reasonable starting point for some projects but you are far better setting up your own templates for your own stuff.

PS - I think you'll find S8 much easier to work with

I haven't installed it yet beccause I've been having so many problems with SHS 7 as far as dropouts, freezing up, etc. It is much worse then MC4 in this regard. So, I don't know if this will get better with Sonar 8.

Also, I mentioned in another post that I moved files that messed everything up, so SHS couldn't find the audio files. I need to find a system of filing that won't fill up my drives and how to change it properly in Sonar. Right now I am only changing the destination as I save the file. I think I should probably be changing it under the Options menu. I would like to install it today...I've had it for a few days now, but I had a couple of projects on the go that I didn't want to jeopardize by not installing Sonar 8 properly. I dont think it's too hard, it where I should be saving the files. I seem to have a lot of things automaically saved, but cause I have all these files which I think are from whenever I hit the save button. But it is so messy, I don't know which files I really want. So, I need to get a handle on this.

    Thanks.

Best tip ever Steve. I was hesitant to install it because I was having so many drop out and crashing issues. So, once I finished up most of my projects, I thought it was a safe time to try it. Knock on wood, it has been running like a charm. Only downside is I just got used to to the layout/fomat of SHS 7 and Sonar 8 is almost identical to the MC 4 layout. Funny how quickly we forget!

    Good news Annette.

Once you've got S8 all set up how YOU want it, as opposed to how a committee thinks you want it, you'll find the work flow much easier I reckon.

SH7 is a good program I'll concede, but I can't see how it offers its users an easy upgrade to SONAR should they wish to move up to the flagship range at some point.

As you say, SONAR is much more like other Cake products, in fact it's almost identical to HS6 so I for one am glad I never bothered to learn HS7 in too much detail.

BTW, have you sorted out your procedures for saving your projects - if not, do it now while you've just got your new software installed, you really will be glad you did

Dang it...I knew I spoke too soon. Just had my first Sonar 8 crash Why me Lord???

Also, no I haven't really given it much thought. Open to suggestions though. So far I just let Sonar set up everything like it wanted to.

    Thanks.
