Jon but how does the plug-ins sound? you suprise me your running a realtek.. now that is more needy than a flippin UAD card..

Not to mention having to lick the walls.

As for the sound well, it's another freeware set to keep handy and these are quite colourful so they may get some use, but my favourite for using where I'd like to have a 1073 instead is the Stillwell 1973.

But for now, spend your money (even if its extra) on your own friends and families, they deserve it, and, if its not extra, then make sure you take care of yourselves first.

Graciously grateful,

Now I feel insulted. I thought you were our friends and family.

Ok. Where are you seeing the flexi-pak for $300? I want to buy it. Sweetwater has it for $350. If someone can give me a link to buy for $300, I'm in.

priorities .. priorities .. priorities .. if he's so skint.. well $300 is better spent elsewhere rather than on a rather expensive UAD set of plugs...UAD card is a LUXURY.. not a necessary (e.g. food)

jeez this is like where I used to work... (a bunch of Mac evangelists).. your right I haven't tried the UAD cards, much as I wouldn't buy the SSL. Duende or Pro tools.. why? because you are locked into them. You can't go elsewhere to get add ons etc. and they can change the goal posts any time they like if they want. Fair enough having a USB dongle, but it's even funnier that it's a pci / pci-e card.

I used to install the odd rendering card , we had 2 on one machine about $14,000 EACH card.. and well within 1 year they were half that cost.. so the value of them did come down a lot. Trying to get me to spend money on something which is basically a way to get more CPU power isn't where it's at for me.

Anyway, in the scale of things I think food and numerous other things are FAR more important.

I don't see it that way.

I spent the money to get a set of quality plug that happen to run a card that frees up CPU power. JMO.

OK, I found this one that pretty much lets you get the card for free after the voucher, plus you get an extra $150 in vouchers from UA.

http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/product/Universal-Audio-UAD1e-Expert-PAK?sku=703347

If I spend that much, I might as well just get the UAD2 Quad Flexi. I can't decide. Everyone says these plugs sound great though and I'm ready to jump on board, just not sure which pack to get. I'm thinking I want the UAD1 Flexi (PCI) now and get a UAD2 PCIe later. I only have 2 pcie slots and my gfx card is sitting in one of them. UAD1 PCI + UAD2PICe would be perfect for me I think. I'm pretty sure I just want the uad1 flexi now, but it looks like everyone is sold out.

I'm thinking I want the UAD1 Flexi (PCI) now and get a UAD2 PCIe later.

Honestly, I would get the UAD1 PCIe over PCI just for a little more future proofness. 2 out of 3 of my cards are PCI and Im a little nervous about upgrading my pc in a year or 2 and not having enough PCI slots available. Just a thought.

Point taken. My current DAW has plenty of power to make an album, so DSP power isn't really the goal here-- I mainly just want to be able to use the plugs. I'm planning to mostly use the SE versions of the 1073 and 1176 so I really don't plan to buy a UAD2 for a few years (maybe when UAD3 comes out). But I only have one remaining PCIe slot so I want to save that space for the eventual UAD2 purchase. I think I'm going to buy the UAD1 Project Pack (PCI) since it's only $200. It doesn't come with any vouchers, but I'll get $150 + a $50 coupon from UA with their current promotion. I'll just have to pay $12 for my Neve 1073 plugin then I can at least get started with the basics. I'll eventually buy the Precision Limiter as well. Can you comment on the difference in sound between the SE version (more CPU efficient) and the regular version of the 1176 and 1073?

I rarely, if ever use the SE versions of those plugs, so a comparison wouldnt mean much from me. Sorry.
