You're trying to use Rapture to send MIDI data? Rapture is a softsynth which 'receives' MIDI data. In Rapture you just need to right-click on a control and select "MIDI Learn" from the popup context menu then move your controller knob.

I already tried that. when i press midi learn it wont respond. And when i press the midi button on live and drag the knobs on rapture i should be able to see it in the midi list. em I wrong?

odd, that function works in cubase fine..

are you running the latest version of it also?

    http://www.cakewalk.com/Support/Rapture/default.asp

your using pc or mac etc?

how about the midi channel is it set to omni or channel 1?

don't use live.. so hence the answer is a bit vague

I don't use live either, Fog. I would think Rapture's MIDI learn should work regardless of the host, right?

Virtualboy00, does MIDI learn work when you run Rapture with its standalone Microhost?

I did try the demo of it Bob and my German friend raves on about it a lot (like the mentalist he is, bless him).

well all rapture is doing is looking for the CC or whatever it is.. much like any other VST-i that supports the midi learn function, it's just listening.

could be even the keyboard or some parameters you'd need to set up in ableton.. virtualboy.. have you posted on the live forum aslo? I can't believe your the only user who uses that combo.

Can you upload a slightly larger image? I can't quite see from that pic where it's expected to be making something happen.

    On a related note:
Live can't "see" more than the first 127 (or 128) exposed parameters from any plug in (not just rapture). Raptures list is bigger than 128, so anything from 129 on will be invisible from Live's perspective.

To find out if the parameter you're moving is visible to Live, do the following (I'm doing this off memory, since I'm not at my machine, so bear with me a post or two if I miss something):
    - Create a track and insert Rapture
    - On the Live plugin strip (along the bottom of the app), one of the buttons gives you a list of the parameters Live can "see" from a given plugin. I THINK it's a button on the actual plugin box... the box that has the button that opens the Rapture UI. It'll be a list of 127/128 entries. Check and see if the parameter you're moving is there. If it is, Live should be able to see it, and there's some other issue (maybe Rapture's midi out isn't functioning properly). If it's not, then Live can't see it and there's not a lot you can do.

This limitation has been the thorn in many a Live user's side for a very long time now. No word on when/if it will be resolved. It's annoying to, since it means you can't automate lots of stuff, in lots of things.

Again, I'll have to get my machine up and running, and I'll repost better instructions. Sorry about that.

    Take care,

zevo, that's interesting to know.. not that I use Live.

I thought it might be either

    1) the interface wasn't updating (if you could tweak it with the mouse and it alters , then 2 would have been what I thought)

    2) the midi side of things, I mean some people setup the out as well as the in to get synths working.

with midi learn (right click) couldn't you just re-assign it to a different dial?.. also what keyboard is it as well.. that has an impact perhaps.. I did get some odd behaviour with my axiom 61 intially because it was in a different none standard mode.
