Moderators: this forum has become infected

I guess video to iPod utilities are an improvement over fake Nike sneakers, at least they're semi-relevant.

But beware of free utilities - some are simply delivery vehicles for spyware.

Be especially wary of free software from China. Be doubly dubious of dishonest advertisers who claim to be forum members.

I'm not saying that caijunfan, shareware123 and GStartgo are necessarily scammers, but I for one am in no hurry to download anything from them/him.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

    Hello,

It's funny because I've been looking for a YouTube downloader because there are so many videos of great musicians and performers that I'd like my students to see. For those without or with poor internet connectivity, I like to be able to put the videos on DVD. These utilities that have been posted here are not "free." If you read carefully it says you can "download for free," that is after you buy the program for $35.00. Or, in the case of the converter, you can convert for free after you buy the converter. I guess that's like saying you can make all the music you want "for free" after you pay for Sonar.

The people who post these messages are being paid most probably and are targeting muti-media technology sites where they know their customers lurk. I don't mind a semi-relevant advert now and then, but these guy have figured out how to make them "sticky."

I've used a free utility called, appropriately enough, "YouTube Downloader". It worked and did not appear to be carrying any malware payloads.

    George,

    Check out this site... http://keepvid.com/

It lets you grab videos and save them as files from sites like YouTube, etc. Nothing to install. You just type in the URL of the video page.

    Best,
    Scott

    Hello Scott,

Thanks for the heads up. I must have used this site before then lost track of it. I've got it bookmarked again. But Jonesey's Firefox plug is even cooler. Thanks Jonesy!
