Alice Sweet Alice - These Old Shoes - THURSDAY REPOST
http://soundclick.com/share?songid=7285403 OK, sorry to post two in such quick succesion. I had this one done, and LOST it due to a computer malfunction. Moral to this story. When you think you're done with a mix, BACK IT UP - right there and then on DVD and throw it in a firesafe. Hard lesson to learn, but I learned it. So I actually A/B'd this mix and the last one, and think I like this new one better anyway. Also, I've gotten a lot of comments about "fizzy" guitars, but that may be a genera-specific thing. Here's an example of an Love & Rockets song that I used to love as a teenager, and now I think the guitars kind of sound like crap. So if you wanna hear fizzy, there it is: but you can still have "fizzy" guitars and sell a butload of records. The song is by Love and Rockets and it's entitled "Kundalini Express" http://www.rhapsody.com/player?type=track&id=tra.2821968&remote=false&page=&pageregion=&guid=&from=&hasrhapx=false&__pcode= Anyway, enjoy!

Nice groovy guitar lick that goes through the verse. I think the panning of the vocals kinda through the focal point of the song in an odd direction. The kick could be more pronounced. I think the bass is masking it a bit. Maybe a little cut and boost in the oppsite frequncies may really help it stand out more. Nice job and good sounding vocals Cj

Very nice soundscape you created. "Fizzy" guitars didn't bother me at all. Thanks for sharing!

Your stuff always sounds so good I feel like I accomplished something. Sweet. Yeah, the vocals are sort of an experiment and tell a part of the story. I feel you on the Kick and Bass though. I totally agree there. That's an easy enough adjustment. I really appreciate your chiming in!! I'm stoked, I got 2 done today!

hey Scott guitars do sound better on this than on your previous post. one thing you could try is using a free plug called T-Sledge - i often strap it across a guitar buss and use the preset called (i think) 'Vintage warmer' or something similar....it does wonders with that fizzyness. justr worth a try - it's free! the male vocal seems too far out front of the mix. and isn't as good as the female vox. a greta tune again, this album's gonna be a corker! btw, in the other thread, i wasn't comparing you to Portishead, but to The Whores of Babylon http://www.whoresofbabylon.co.uk/ i still listen to their first album a lot...

I'll def give that a shot. Could you clarify the above a little bit? If you're talking about signing, well, that much is obvious LOL. But do you mean the way it's produced? If so, perhaps there is something that stuck out? Thanks so much!!

I thought it was great. Great vocalists and mix. I can't really offer any helpful crits.

http://soundclick.com/share?songid=7285403 OK, everybody. MGH, I tried your T-Sledge fix and I think it worked great on the Rhythm guitars! I left the lead alone. I also equalized the vocals so they match better and got the BG's to sit better. I'm pretty happy overall. You know what's funny, is I just remembered on the one I just posted here, The Inevitable, I used the T-Sledge on the solo in the middle! And I even used the same setting "Vintage Warmer"!! Talk about on the same page!! Out of all the other plugs and settings in the world, I just happened to use the same one you recommended! And another thing, they say "Corker" up here in Maine too, but when they say it, it almost sounds like CA-CA!! Thanks to everybody, I really appreciate your help! PS: MGH, I'm going to check out the Whores after I split from here. Thanks!

ha well great minds and all that, Scott! with regard to the male vocal, it was a lot more out front than the female vocal, i think it is still, a little too much, it either needs to be slightly quieter in volume or with more 'verb just to pull it in - y'see, listening to it, it's not a bad vocal, it's jsut that i'm so used to your verb drenched dreamy music that having a fairly straight up vocal is..odd. but listening to it again, cos i knoew it was coming, it was better - but if you listen as 3'50 where the male and female are together, the male is a lot more powerful...i'd pull back the volume and add more verb to that, i think! BTW this is my favourite one of yours, great quality goth-rock.

MGH my man, Sweet, yeah, I think I got it this time, thanks for that!! Especially for the reference at 3:50 that was a huge help I need a computer upgrade bad. My mixes have gotten so complex with my bussing and such, that I get dropouts every few seconds! So it's impossible to listen straight through. I manage, but it's tough. Thanks for the props on the song too, we're pretty psyched about this new album. We're having fun!!! Peace
