Settings for a Toneport and HS6 on Vista
I currently own a Line 6 Toneport UX1 and have tried several times to use it in HS6. So far, the best I can do is be able to hear my recordings as I'm recording them, but once I play it back the sound is completely distorted and indecipherable. can someone who uses the Toneport and Home Studio on Vista tell me what their settings are? I have tweaked the settings many different ways and have yet to be successful.

I've been using a UX1 with Sonar for more than 3 years, so far with no real problems, certainly nothing like you've described. But I'm still using Windows XP, and wouldn't be the least surprised if therein lies your problem. Alas, you'll have to rely upon one of our Vista users for a solution. Latency occurs to me, but I'm not convinced that's it. Good luck, I know you'll resolve this promptly

Yeah, I used my UX1 on XP with Guitar Tracks and Sonar for a couple years with no major problems. It was when I switched to Vista that the problems started, so I need to know if it's possible to use the same equipment on Vista.

Yes, I installed the latest Vista drivers directly from the Line 6 website and I've always had the same problem. I really wish someone could give me their settings so I could just try the same ones and see if it fixes the problem. Otherwise I'm at a loss for what to do...

Hi Matt Not quite a UX1 but my UX2 plays very nicely with HS6 on Vista so I may be able to help. First off, I'm assuming you're using the UX1 as your (USB) soundcard. Now, what 'settings' exactly are you referring to? Those in GearBox or those in HS6, or both? Let me know and I'll let you have my settings as soon as I can. Steve

I'm talking about the settings in both Gearbox and HS6 and how they cooperate with each other, that's what I think is the problem. As I try to record in HS6, the vertical bar that follows the recording stutters and freezes as it moves. A recording shows up after, but as you play back the same stuttering and freezing occurs, and the audio is distorted. If you could give me your complete settings for HS6 and Gearbox that would be a huge help, then I'll let you know if it works.

I had something similar occur when I started running SHS6 on my notebook with Vista. Playback was choppy (like a tremelo set on HIGH!) I had to disable (in the Device Manager) the onboard soundcard - leaving the UX1 as the only sound device. Once I did this, the problem went away. This is not optimal for me as I would like my internal audio to work again when I disconnect the UX1 without having to go back into the Device Manager and re-enable it. Any suggestions here?

Why bother disconnecting the UX1? It's a perfectly good sound card that I use for everything. Note that I don't run any outboard hardware through it though

you don't lose your internal audio just because you disable your onboard soundcard

ORIGINAL: mcourter Why bother disconnecting the UX1? It's a perfectly good sound card that I use for everything. Because it's not too convenient to lug the UX1 along everywhere with a notebook PC! :) ORIGINAL: i8ipop you don't lose your internal audio just because you disable your onboard soundcard. I sure think you do! Well, disabling it in the Device Manager you sure do! If you know of a way to disable it and still have it work, then you've discovered a bug in Vista that I wouldn't want fixed! Please tell!

You may want to configure a hardware profile for when you're using the Toneport so that you just boot to that profile when you don't want your internal audio enabled. Here's a decent work through on how. http://www.lockergnome.com/windows/2006/12/05/hardware-profiles-in-vista/ We use this alot for laptops that have docking stations with their own NIC. Sadly, that all the help I have. I also have a UX1 and XP and haven't any experiance with the Line6 stuff and Vista.

you don't lose your internal audio just because you disable your onboard soundcard Of course you do, but I think maybe you are meaning to say something different from how it reads. Can you elaborate?

the comment referred to him having to swap between the toneport and his onboard card. if you can't be bothered lugging the toneport around it only takes a few seconds to re-enable the soundcard if you plan on taking your laptop out.

These are the fast settings I use if I (very rarely) record without GearBox effects and with Input Monitoring enabled in HS6: TonePort: HS6 Options>Audio>General tab:
These settings are good for recording with GearBox - the TonePort's ToneDirect monitoring means I still can't detect any latency:
I use these settings for mixing:
These are the HS6 settings - Options>Audio>Advanced tab
And the Options>Audio>Drivers settings showing the TonePort drivers:
Finally, these are the Track Input Options in HS6: Hope that helps Steve
