OT - Need a decent amp simulator for heavy metal

So, I've always miked my amp. I loved it - always sounded great (once I figured out how to position my mics, that is).

I now find myself living downtown, in an apartment that doesn't allow me to record with a real amp, so I must resort to recording with a sim. Sigh. I've been using GuitarRig (I think 1, maybe 2), and I hate it. I can see how this sim would work for clean sounds, but the distorted sounds are just awful. The distortion is really clumpy, fizzy, and fake. It's pretty much the epitome of everything that sounds bad in an amp sim.

So I turn to you people for opinions. I've heard decent things about Amplitube and Revalver, but I don't know how trusted the sources of these statements are. What are your opinons, Sonar forums?

I'm a big Amplitube fan myself, though IK stuff sometimes doesn't play well with others. I think they even have a special "Hendrix" module that might help you a bit.

    Amplitube Metal or Revalver MKIII

Both will give you an excellent metal-tone!!!!
Amplitube might need a little boost on the input, though...

So, I've played around with Apmlitube and Revalver III.

Amplitube is kind of weak with what I've gotten out of it... all the distortions are fuzzy, and you don't have much to work with when toying with mic positioning.

Revalver is pretty damn good, though, from what I've tried. Distortions don't sound half bad. The only thing I don't like is that I can't figure out how to use multiple mics...

I have a POD2 from Line 6... bought it cheap on Ebay. I like the distortion, and the models OK.... I use it as my "main amp" for recording. Take a listen to my tunes and tone. I have a Mesa Boogie 22 that is sweet for a live rig, but I prefer to use the POD on recording.... it goes direct really nicely.

I dug out my Digiwreck RP250 multi-effects pedal that I haven't used in a while....and you know what.... I was getting some decent tones (I love Slayer).

I plug it straight into my Edirol box.. and it's nice having an expression to boot.

    ...no pun intended.
