Traktor and Sonar X3 in sync
Hi all,i need an advice by my forum's fellows and Traktor users. I'm trying to sync Traktor Pro 2 with Sonar X3 in one pc to play our awesome Rapture and zt3a 2 for an House Session live set in Rome. It's all right with audio and controller part but Sonar don't feel the sync trough the virtual midi cable (LoopBe or Midi Yoke)..... Maybe i something wrong with a midi set sync tab in Sonar? This is my steps: Traktor midi send on Traktor Generic Midi interface LoopBe in and out Traktor Master on and play and send midi clock on Sonar sync options tab: Stay for MTC on (no internal trigger) Check Midi source and play Let the source clock and wait the timecode Where i'm wrong? Can you help me? Greetings

I don't have a setup in front of me to try this, but Sonar should be set to receive MIDI clock if that's what Traktor is sending. MTC and MIDI clock are not the same thing. From Sonar's documentation: 1. Configure the external MIDI device you want to use as the master device to transmit MIDI Sync. 2. Go to Edit > Preferences > MIDI Devices. 3. Make sure that your MIDI interface is highlighted in the Inputs list, and click OK. 4. Click the Transmit MIDI Sync button in the Sync module to use the MIDI Sync clock source. From now on, SONAR starts playback and recording only after the appropriate message is received from the master device. It seems counter-intuitive to click transmit MIDI sync to receive MIDI sync, but I guess that's how it works...

Let me know if that does the job or not, as I also use Traktor and can test more extensively in a few days.

I can get Traktor to sync to Sonar. Is that good enough? However, now I need to figure out how to get the deck to follow the tempo...

The plot thickents. I tested Traktor's output with MIDI-Ox, and it Traktor does generate Start, Stop, and Clock. I used MIDI-Ox to send Start, Stop, and Clock commands to Sonar, and it recognized them. AND I could trigger both of them simultaneously from MIDI Ox, although it doesn't seem to be the most stable clock source on the planet. So I'm not sure why Sonar can't slave to Traktor.

Ohh...Do you have Traktor and Sonar in sync ? Awesome! How did you do? It's my goal.....but like you said Sonar doesn't see the start.....it waits for the midi clock......maybe it's a Sonar bug couse the steps to put in sync Sonar with a master it's not very difficult. Let me know your setting for Sonar midi and sync options and many thanks again!!

I was able to sync Sonar to Ableton Live, Sony Acid, and Steinberg Cubase as well as MIDI Ox. It seems Sonar can sync to pretty much anything except Traktor. Do you want to know how to slave Traktor to Sonar, or how to sync both of them to the MIDI Ox "transport" that sends MIDI sync?

It's a 32-bit program but it's working with my Windows 7 64-bit system. It does seem strange that Sonar could sync to everything I tried except Traktor.

I can sync Traktor to Sonar and start both of them simultaneously from MIDI-Ox. Are those not satisfactory solutions? Also, have you contacted NI? Since I can sync Sonar to Acid, Cubase, MIDI-Ox, and Live, it's clear Sonar can sync to other programs.

My partner will do it very soon couse he's the owner of Traktor S4 license. I will inform you on Native Instruments replay.

Make sure you are on X3E and run NI service centre. BTW problem reporter is there only for reproducible bugs with Sonar (they will probably close your issue without a response)/you should contact NI I suggest first. Or Cakewalk support if you think really that's a better option (not through problem reporter) although really this should be in NI's lap cake shouldn't have to support everybody else's product first time around. Chances are you may find solutions in NI forums and YouTube. Cheers

I'm tired of PM and there's a summary of Native Instruments replay. have you made sure that you created one mapping in Traktor that uses the MIDI port as 'out port' where you want to send the MIDI clock to? Cause otherwise indeed nothing will be sent. I cant speak about possible problems on the Sonar side, but you can see all details regarding making Traktor sending the clock in these articles: http://www.native-instruments.com/en/support/knowledge-base/show/1137/how-to-synchronize-traktor-and-ableton-live/ I have reflected and there is a strange thing......Sonar doesn't have the MIDI IN options in Sync TAB! All the Sonar Midi clock options are to send the midi message. Only in the Sync tab there is a receive midi option but is not clear where i must send the start message. In Live is a very clear procedure.....in midi sync tab there are midi in and out ports and i can decide where send the Traktor midi clock message (LoopBe in port). If so technical support will have to think to improve this aspect of Sonar because in modern music live is increasingly common to use daw in sync with the live musicians. It would be a shame not to use the Sonar's powerful synths in a live show. Can you help me? Thanks in advance
