Billy Powell of Skynyrd - R.I.P.
Billy Powell recorded my two favorite rock piano solos ever--"Call Me The Breeze" and "I Know A Little." Original member of the greatest American rock band ever IMO. The current lineup of Skynyrd might have to change its name, as I believe the agreement between them and Ronnie V.Z.'s widow was that at least two original members must be in the band in order for them to use the Skynyrd name. Gary Rossington is the only original member left now--bummer.

Lynyrd Skynyrd's smash first album line up included Ronnie Van Zant Gary Rossington Allen Collins Ed King Billy Powell Bob Burns Leon Wilkeson Interestingly, Strawberry Alarm Clock - the band with Incense and Peppermints back in the 60s, had Ed King Gary Lovetro Jim Pitman Paul Marshall Mark Tulin Michael Luciano Bob Feldman Sweet Home Alabama and Incense and Peppermints always sounded a lot alike to me.
Some people call me Maurice SPLAT Pro lifetime, ADK 6 core 3.6Ghz with 32 GB RAM, SSD 1TB system drive, 3 3TB regular drives for samples, recordings and misc. Behringer X Touch, UAD Apollo Quad. 2 UAD2 Quads PCI (i think - inside the box whatever that is), Console 1. More guitars (40??) and synths (hard and soft) than talent. Zendrum!!!

I saw them b4 the plane crash at RFK stadium in DC, back in the 70s. They rocked the house... A true classic rock band. May any of us leave 1/10th such a mark on music, we would be successful beyond our wildest dreams. RIP...

Sad news indeed. I guess this is truly the end for LS; we all thought it was done after the 1977 crash. That was a hell of a year for me, as a lot of people I admired left this earth: Elvis, Groucho, the guys in Skynyrd and my mom just days before her 48th birthday.

Sad loss. Looks like he had a bit of weight problem. Could be a bit of a wake up call for us aging musicians to lead a physically active, as well as musical, life. Andrew
