    nziegs,

There are numerous threads in the forum that are related to pops and crackles and the many causes. I just got through working through that issue myself. Things that the experts in these forums will need to know to help you (I'm not one) are all about your system specs, audio interface you're using, version of cakewalk, etc... These things all matter. The problem is most often a driver problem, buffer or latency problem, or it could be that your onboard soundcard may be interfering with an after market one, etc. There are lots of things involved. Run a forum search for cracks and pops and read up on the suggestions being offered until one of the experts comes into this thread to assist you.

    Good luck
    John

    thanks for response,

most of the threads i found have to do with cracking and popping while playing back a recording...mine cracks pops, and makes other noises if i have the program open...even if im not using it...as long as the program is open it makes these noises. My computer is a pc. my buddy built it for me about 5 years ago...im not really much of an expert on computers so i dont know a whole lot about it. i have windows xp...and i just got a new sound card put in by a professional. it is a creative audigy sound blaster. the program i am using is cake walk homestudio version 7.0. any suggestions would be appreciated.

creative audigys are not usually the best for recording. the problem could be with the drivers of the audigy. but first I'd check to make sure your onboard soundcard is not causing conflicts.

go here and tell me what you have listed and checked:
    OPTIONS>AUDIO>GENERAL>RECORDING and PLAYBACK TIMING MASTERS
    and here:
    OPTIONS>AUDIO>DRIVERS>INPUT and OUTPUT

make sure ONLY the audigy is listed in all 4 of those places. if it is already, then we'll try something else.
