Mixing 16 bit and 24 bit audio

Is it possible to have both 16 bit and 24 bit audio in a project? I have had issues with this in the past that I am unable to play back one or the other if both exist in the same project.

thanks,

msr

As of version 5 Sonar can handle different bit depths in a project. It's all being converted to 32 or 64 bit floating point anyway, the moment it enters Sonar's audio engine - while the files themselves stay at their current format.

Yes it can in Sonar 5 and above. It should play back to what ever you sound card is set to.

OK, correct me if I'm wrong here. When you import a 16bit wav file into a Sonar project that is 24bit. Doesn't it automatically make a copy of that wav and convert it to 24bit ? That is if you have "copy imported media to project folder" set on.

Frank - that depends on the settings in global options > audio data. If it's set to "original" for imports, no bit depth conversion takes place.
