    Cool..
    did not know that.......

I know I'll never be able to even come close to playing like that but even if I can just snag a couple of idea's for like I think $8 buck a CD it would be worth having one or two..

thanks for the heads up....I willl check it out........

    Yeah
I think that your right.....I'm thinking that Zappa pushed him a lot harder and farther.......

but I did go to Amazon and got to listen to some of the cuts..........still kind of undecided about this .....but like I said.....8 bucks for even a couple of techniques would be well worth it....

but my next question is Amazon states that they will download right to your music Lib. but I was thinking of putting them on my flash drive and then loading them up in Sonar as steve has suggested doing........but I'm not sure if this will work.........I was thinking about just buying a single for 89 cents and trying to find out..........

A friend of mine has the Alien Love Secrets naked vamps.

I distinctly remember being very impressed that a tab book came with a backing track CD that sounded as good as that one did.

As far as I remember it said inside the book that the CD was made from the original studio tracks minus the guitar, and were WAV format not mp3.

So, for about twenty bucks for a note-for-note book and a CD of such quality, IMO is hard to beat.

    Truckermusic,

The CD came with the tab book in a sleeve on the inside of the cover.

I am pretty sure it was purchased at a local music store, although it had to be at least a number of years ago.

Not sure how they package or sell it today, I wasn't even aware that his songs could be downloaded.

But if I was looking for something like those jamtracks, I'd try to find a tab book with a CD.

Yep. Before Vai met Zappa, Vai was nothing more but an extremely talented, precocious guitar player.

Now he's composer, producer, engineer, guitarist, vocalist.......

Writing (notation of) Zappa's music I believe was one of Vai's main tasks...a young gifted mind no doubt about it.

Yes Spacey - I've got the "Frank Zappa Guitar Book", with all notation done by Mr V.

Working through one or 2 examples provides a fine insight into both of their worlds.......

When I read about how much time he spent just notating Zappa's music I'm just in awe..........the man put in some serious time.........It amazes me that he actually took the time to do it........

same thing for the japanese guys that transcribed the beatles music an put it a compalation!!!!

    Just amazes me........

That's what I admire about him..........HE CHOOSES to be a shreader.........but he has his theroy and educational background together.
Not many can claim this and he is in it for the love of music no two ways about it.(although he now rakes in the cake (sorry about the pun) but he paid his dues).........
So although I will never be able to play like that Ever in my wildest dreams...I just think that if I could get one or two ideas I could use then these naked tracks @$34 for the set would be cheaper than a monthly guitar lesson.........

Hey I'm not asking much I don't think...just one.........two would be the icing on the cake.!!!!!

Thanks again for all the help

Actually, some of his more recent stuff has been far from the shredding we've become accustomed to.

He's showing his maturity and even on his rock stuff, the songs are more approachable and there's a keen emphasis on the song itself, not just the playing.

This is an ongoing process which started way back with the Fire Garden CD.

Even more eye-opening is the stuff he's written for guitar & orchestra - Sound Theories vols I & II

He's also done a piece called Fire Strings but I don't think it's been released yet.

    Not many can claim this

In his way my son can.

He may not shred as good as Vai but he shreds just the same.
He did all the marching band and orchestra arrangements in high school.
He plays: guitar, bass, tuba, trombone, marimbas, keboards, violin, drums, bandoneon and anything else he gets his hands on.

Heas was told by his UCLA film scoring professor "You know everything you need to know, stay if you like but I don't think I can teach you anything".

My son does it for the love of music. He may never be rich in monetary terms but he is rich in spirit and talent. And for that I salute and love him dearly. He follows his heart.

I'm looking right Here on Amazon and I see the Buy MP3 button. You just pay and download.

Perhaps I don't understand what you are looking for?
