Anyone use a Mackie Universal Control Board
How do you like this Mackie control with Sonar? and do you think it has great features Sonar.... I love my Behringer
and swear by it but the more I'm doing this the more I can see upgrading....and using the Behringer BCF2000 along with a Mackie
What do you think....

If you got an MCU why would you use the BCF? Maybe just as an ACT surface? I would think you'd sell it to offset your upgrade cost.

most likely that is what I will do...But I can also use the BCF with my laptop setup as well when I'm recording
on the go....SO in that case I may keep it for my mobile setup...

I have a small space - so I keep it in the closet until I'm ready to do mixing

ah got it. Well, until the V700 comes out, the MCU is the gold standard of control surfaces it seems. Though someone posted a link to something else really cool, It had the word "Logic" in it's name, tough no relation to the DAW of the same name. Looked pretty rad and I had never heard of it. Ah, here we go: Mixed Logic. Never heard of it, but the only thing that comes close to having the controls an MCU does. Tho the Mackie mode for the BCF is pretty rad, and the custom surface for the BCR is also quite rad.

I had a BCF and it was excellent but you do eventually outgrow it and the best option as evidenced by time and overall number of users (+support) is the MCU. So I bought one. The MCU takes you up a level or three and does improve your workflow. There is more you will want to get from your surface but then you are looking at a whole new price range aren't you.  Having had the MCU for some time now, it would be nice to have a better plugin 'surface' as well... the BCR might be a good option or something similar. Happy decision making!

ok I bit the bullet and got a great great deal on a "Mackie Logic Control Surface"
which can be fully updated to MCU via midi update....So I will have me a nice MCU
next week.... Now I'll have to do some reading before I get it to get it to work with
Sonar correctly...
Do you all have any suggestions as to what to read....I searched the forum but there
wasn't anything (That I could find) regarding installation,....But from what I gather I could
follow almost the same installation details that Blades provided for the BCF....
Having the BCF has opened my eyes up to all that could be done..minus a mouse and keyboard!!!

great great deal on a "Mackie Logic Control Surface"
which can be fully updated to MCU via midi update.... That's not quite accurate depending on the version of the on board firmware you may also need to replace an eprom on the MCU before the midi update. When I did mine many years ago the cost was over $100 for the eprom from Mackie.

The software version on the board as of now is: 1.00 Basic Mackie Control Universal Upgrade
If you have a version 1.x Mackie or Logic Control (including extenders), there is a free MIDI download which will allow you to control all of the Mackie Control supporting DAWs AND Emagic Logic Audio.
Free for all existing Mackie Control, Logic Control, and MC or LC Extender owners, this download will update your control surface to have both Mackie Control and Emagic Logic Audio functionality. HUI support for Pro Tools is not included in this download. Instructions for updating your unit(s) are included as a Read Me file in the downloadable zip archive.
1. If you own a Mackie Control or XT with firmware version 1.x and you want to add Logic Control Functionality, download this free MIDI upgrade.
2. If you own a Logic Control or XT with firmware version 1.x and you want to add Mackie Control Functionality, download this free MIDI upgrade. From what I understand on the Mackie website is if you want the added functionality for Pro-tools with the Logic Control Surface then you would need the firmware chipset or upgrade kit (with the eMagic console).. IF not ...the upgrade kit is $99..which would still be a great deal that I got the unit for.. ken

Is the midi connection just as good as a USB connection? The only midi in's and out I have are on my 1616m

Is the midi connection just as good as a USB connection? The midi connections on your interface will work fine.

OK...I've run into a problem...I got my eMagic/Logic control surface today.. IT comes on with a blue screen..Won't do anything..I can However get it to boot up in the Firmware update mode but I have tried doing an update in the eMagic/ Mackie control via a midi file...But it will start the update and I get an "Error Code 3"...... any help is greatly appreciated... ken

Problem solved....The Control Surface just wasn't communicating with the Mackie via my E-mu 1616m's
midi controller. So I went out and bought an M-Audio Uno USB/midi fired it up...booted the Mackie into the
Firmware boot...Loaded up the update and it took beautifully...Looks Like it is fully functional...I'll get to
check it out more after my show this evening to make sure......:)

Hi everyone....
I have another question regarding the MCU,
Can I use magnetic tape strips on my Mackie Control Unit (original one) so I can use them as labels? or will it interfere with the internal functions...I don't want to use regular tape unless I have too...

Sorry for bursting in here but I’m looking for an MCU owner who would have the Steinberg Cubase Lexan Overlay for the unit that they are not using as I cannot purchase 1 from here in Ireland. If ye are not using it could ye sell it to me please or I could swap for any of the other overlays ? thanks
