That lost instrument

What is the single instrument you once had that you wish you could have back?

Mine was a 196x Fender P-Bass. I got it in 1968. Did not know how to date a guitar then so I can't say the exact year. It was definately 4-6 years old. I had to repair the wiring the pickups. When I got the bass it did not have any output. I used my cheapo St. George as a "model".

IMHO you cannot beat the 60s P-Basses.

My 1959 les paul flame top.

    Nah
I have most of the stuff I had in college. I sold a Gibson arch top guitar, a Martin JC 40 and a Fender 1962 or so Concert. Other than that, I pretty much have everything I ever bought. I still have my LP custom from 73 in high school and my Ovation 12 string I bought back then too.

I had a Fender Quad reverb in the 70s. I wish I had that still, though I have a super 6 now.

Not an instrument as such some may think, but I had an AKG D12 mic which just seemed to get better with age, something to do with internal corrosion due to the ingress of moisture apparently.....but I don't know about those kind of technicalities.

All I know is that it used to punch right through you and button up at the back!

It got nicked by the support band I suspect but I couldn't prove it.

    A tone of its own.

The question gave me a couple of thoughts Bapu.
My first LP goldtop 64 of 65.

And I'm going to call a feeling and instrument..
You know the feeling you got when you first starting driving? No not fear..the excitement, fun...could spend all day cruisin.
I use to get that same feeling everytime I picked up my guitar...it gave me ambition...I wish I had that back.

Not so much an instrument but a necessary part of the overall sound. My 1988 Marshall JCM 800 2210 dual lead head and matching 1960A & 1960B cabs. I parted with it in a momentary lapse of reason when I moved from South Florida to Kansas in 94.

Thank goodness I found the sound again in a Marshall JVM410 head and 1960A Cab. Sweet bliss yet again.

Oh yeah, I mentioned it in another thread.

My AKG drum mics (those tiny acorn size clip ons and the D112 kick drum mic). I guess I could just buy them again but I just bought the CAD Pro 7 set.

I've never sold a guitar, having only a small collection. But a few years ago I let a friend of my son have an old Fender Champ that was my first amp. Only 15 watts, not a great deal of power, but oh the sweet blues tone I could get with that and my LP! And I once had an inexpensive Epiphone acoustic that was stolen. In terms of tone and playability, it far transcended its price range.

Ensoniq SD1 32 voice. I traded it in for a Korg Trinity years ago and have regretted it ever since!

A 1976 US-made Fender Telecaster that I sold for $500 about 5 years ago. It weighed about 10 lbs but man it had a sweet tone...

A late 60's Gibson ES-150DC guitar that I bought used (in near-mint condition) in the mid-70's for $350.00. It was very much like a double cutaway version of the ES-175 (though it had a fixed, tune-o-matic bridge). Great, fat tone and a neck that I still have never found an equal to in all these years. I beat myself up for selling this great guitar nearly every day...... So much so that I decided a few years ago to see if I could find another one. Well, I found a few, alright, but the prices were in the $5,000-$7,000 range. Oh, well.

    Best regards,
    Bill

mcourter - my first guitar was an Epiphone too. it was a great guitar until I cracked the neck. I wish I still had it.

as for the question, when I went to buy my first electric guitar, in 1975 at the age of 14, the salesman tried to talk me into buying a bright red used ES335 for $300. but no, I wanted a rock guitar, so I bought a new SG Special for $300. What a mistake... still kicking myself... especially after Ted Nugent hit the scene.... and eventually I sold the SG to buy a Strat.
