cakewalk home studio 9 wav import prob

Hope someone can help me on this. Recently obtained Cakewalk Home Studio 9. When trying to import a wav file of song recorded by a friend, Cakewalk tells me it cannot open the file because file type is not supported.??? Importing a wav file should be an easy process. Not sure what the prob could be. Are there differences in types of wav files that I am not aware of. Would appreciate any help...........I'm definately a newbie to digital multi track recording.......many thanks

Importing a Wav file is normally pretty straight forward.

I think though, that... Home Studio 9??

    dcobb55,
Are you able to import any other wav files? There should be a bunch of them on your hard disk even if you haven't made any.

I don't have Home Studio 9 but maybe it is a bit like Pro Audio 9. With PA9 you don't import wav files, you Insert them into a track. So select an empty track and use the Insert menu to insert the wav file.

Right-click on the file from Windows and see if it is really a Wav file and that the bit rate/sample rate is ok.
