check out our really cool T-Bar

Here's a temporary location TV studio we set up last week... the T-Bar got me thinking about SONAR so I asked a friend to grab a pic with his cell phone:

The T-Bar is for switching video transitions.... fades, swipes, etc.

This was a live switched industrial training show that was web cast to about 1000 subscribers as well as taped for DVD distribution.

I don't do much webcast stuff so I found it curious that the streaming media company sent down a server rack on a palette. It arrived via Fedex on a manual forklift. Let's just say it wasn't the laptop I was expecting.

We had live presenters and pre-taped video and graphics to switch in on cue.

If it was for TV Broadcast the producers would have rented a Satellite truck and the switcher and video monitors would have been built into the truck... because of the circumstances they hired us too build a temporary studio for the day.

The sight of the T-Bar in a cream colored rack case was what made me think of posting a photo. :-)

Jimmy, I think it made Mike think of Sonar because it is one of the touted features on the V-Studio 700. There are some jokes about the Death Star floating around as well.

And Mike, am I reading that monitor right? Fox 5 - Somewhere? Just curious...

no FOX for this job... that may be a out take on the test tape or B-roll or something we we're rolling segments off.

The thing about setting up something like this is making sure everything is connected well... and then all video sources need to be synchronized both vertically and horizontally so the switcher makes smooth transitions... so there's lots of testing done before going live.

yea i was going to mention that but forgot. thanks spacey for
    mentioning that.

    mike and jinga
    thanks for the info.
I'm way in the dark on technoledgy (and spelling) but i have such a desire to learn. that leads me to another qeustion. did you expect
a laptop for "modern" reasons. or did not expect such a big hardware
setup. or could you do that with a laptop?

i started getting into creating movies from home a few years back
but havent done it in a while. it was quite ramarkable what one can
do with all the tools. a simple one shot thorugh is pretty lame but
doing the cut, past, scenes, editing etc was cool but man the work
and disk space just to have even mpg let alone avi.

that led me to wonder how even tv with mpg gets such good
quality. i soon found that not all converters are the same. and mike
your skills and knowledge blow me away.

makes me wish i could live another 100 years if i could reman the
same age and learn all that stuff.

    Jimmy,
You can do a webcast with a laptop... it turns out these people were streaming something relatively hi-res and they had redundant servers crunching the encoding codecs and were monitoring locally as well as round trip. They had some nice power conditioning and signal buffering for our video and audio... it was just a very robust portable unit.

    best,
    mike

That's exactly what I was thinking, beats my new Blackberry Bold hands down, what type of phone takes photos as good as that?
