I also think that, regarding all this talk about how far the Beatles came in a very short period of time, we can not forget about The Rolling Stones.

Both started about the same time, both's music had changed significantly in a very short period of time.

But only one hails as the victor.

The Stones kept it coming. And always managed to stay ON TOP with bran-new stuff every time you heard them.

I give a lot of credit to the Beatles, indeed. Nobody will ever be credited for changing the world from music, to politics, to styles, to general mode of thought....but the fact is - The Stones were right there also.

....and still are - 46 years later.
