Outboard Effects?

Is there some way I'm missing to add outboard effects w/out using inputs 1-8 to get a dsp signal in? If not, seems kinda limiting especially when the onboard stuff can get taxing on your pc.

There are no inserts for external FXs on the VS.
I use my Guitar Rig 3 kontrol with no problem but it's a VST with an external foot control.

right, I was wondering of a solution such as the aes in port for digital but if, and I repeat, if that even worked then you'd have to run your one channel into channels 9-10 out to master which is still limiting. I am usin a quad core pc with 3+ gigs of ram and when using a compressor, reverb, and eq with say.. a stereo enhancer and then try to run another guitar track in, I get a 1/2 secong latency. Otherwise I have to bypass the fx bin and then fool around with levels again to record. Just a pain in the butt, but not that big a deal. I just thought offboard effect possibilities would have been nice. Thanks for the response tho. Other than that this is a beautiful piece of gear.

if I understand your first post correctly the short answer would simply be no.

If you want to wire hardware into sonar you're looking at external inserts on the tracks as effects which will take either one or 2 inputs AND outputs. I guess this will be limiting for you.

Other options would be to look at UAD cards, a Focusrite Liquid mix, SSL Duende or the TC Powercore range. These units run off Firewire or PCI/PCIe and won't be processed through your CPU so will help your workload more in the sense of keeping your overheads down but to max out a quad core system you must be piling on the effects

    hope this helps

Ya, actually I did find the insert but still, like u said, limiting. Not maxing the system just giving my aux in guitar a bit of delay,(pain in the butt), I can bypass the fx bin to solve that, so not a huge issue just a small hassle. Actually being backwards in my process, I was mastering a stereo mix off another recorder then decided I wanted a secondary guitar part so... I was already in a bad situation. Thx tho.

    I'm just curious g.andreas.
Does your punch-in and out points work from the VS.

are you using the VS700r? (I do apologise if this is a blindingly obvious question being in the Vstudio forum and all)

I'm pretty sure the VS will come with a software input mixer so you can have latency free monitoring where you'll be able to route the input signal to an output source and blend it in with outputs assigned from sonar. I sort of blend the computer feed with the soundcard input feed if that makes sense (that way I can still record and hear the guitar but input echo doesn't need to be enabled in sonar) and when you play back the track should be recorded

sorry man, at the moment i haven't got one yet, at this moment in time I can't afford it (exchange rate in the UK is really high) and was just replying to G Andreas because the issue seemed to be as much of a sonar issue as the Vstudio.

Really hope someone from cake gets back to you about punching in and out though

    all the best

Actuall guyPicks, to answer your question, I haven't yet tried the punch in yet. I have another tech that works with me in studio and we usually have someone available for punch in's. I will try it today tho if I get a chance!
