I'm a morning person. But work at all hours... I have often explained to people that I have a 24 hour lifestyle.

I would love to work loud in the dead of night. That's impossible due to neighbours. Hopefully in my new house i'll be able to mix at my leisure at 3 in the morning.

I currently record and mix during the day which brings up various problems like BIRDS. Every track I record during the day has birds twittering on it somewhere. Also, our house is next to a main road with a tram line. Every few minutes or so there is the thunderous rumble and clatter of a tram which I have to time perfectly. Especially during vocal takes.

I would love to live in the middle of a field or in a nuclear bunker.

night is better due to people annoying you in the day , ringing etc.. start at about 10-12.. then work a say 3-4 hours.. get something to eat.. then go back to it , do a bit more.. have another break.. then do a bit more..

sometimes your ears get tired.. In London, problems mixing and where I am, no problems.

I don't have to record much live things, so no weird additions to the sounds. Even stuff like piano etc.. the sample cd's a few were made with the help of abbey road (the props refill) , and if they don't know how to mix then I'm in trouble =)

to get work done, it's pretty much a case of vanishing and getting into it. I'm not in a position where I have a family / kids etc. so I don't have to deal with family life in that sense. Probably why I post a lot on here I guess at strange hours.

If I had a family , I'd treat it more like a job. in the sense of a few friends will go to the studio and work in the day till say 8-9pm. obviously it's not continuous work , as you need breaks.

Day or night...... usually day. When I have a slow day, I am the boss, so I can take a day to sit around and play with my studio. My favorite time is when I have a new song that is begging to be recorded.

Also, I get one more post towards platinum and to be back in Fog's band.

I like to record during the day, and mix in the evening. During the day, I have more energy and it translates to tape (or HD). In the evening, I have more time to reflect, and organize..so it lends itself well to mixing. Plus I can't sit still for a minute normally, at least I can stand sitting in one spot listening to the same 10 second passage 50 times without going nuts if I'm a little more chilled out when the day has run!

I'm stuck in the past, but my foot's tapping forward

I have more time late at night but my head is clouded and I feel mentally out of it.

I actually prefer working in the day, which is a real shame due to the day job getting in the way.

I have horrendous neighbours in any case, so certainly tracking at night would be a BIG problem.

It's fairly quiet where we are - the studio is in the back bedroom overlooking the gardens but please, give me a modest lottery win - enough to buy a rambling place in the country, far away from roads, kids & neighbours.

When ever the kids and wife aren't around.

I prefer late afternoon into the evening. I feel more creative in the evenings and it seems like vocals come a little easier after my voice has had the day to get broke in.

In the morning, after a jolt of coffee, fresh and awake with no one around (wife) to disrupt me. Unfortunately, I'm usually at work, so that leaves the evening most of the time by default.

    Day or Night?
    Why?

Once I start a project, I work almost obsessively both day and night, usually starting first thing in the morning and working during every available moment until I'm too tired to keep my eyes open at night (usually early AM, actually). I work in spurts this way, which is kind of a bummer. I might work for three weeks straight and, when the project is done, I may not start another for another three weeks or more. I'd like to work at a more even pace but I guess I'm just not built that way.

    Best regards,
    Bill

Typically evenings and nights for me, mostly because I'm at work during the day. Also, my creative juices usually seem to start flowing between 10PM and 2AM.

I used to be that way. 16-18 hour days, 8 at work, the rest spent working on writing and music. Then one day I just couldn't push it that hard anymore. God how I miss those days.

My wife is out of town for a week, so at the moment it's 24 hours a day!!! I'll plunk away tonight until my head drops onto either the synth or computer keyboard, whichever is closest.

I like to record vocals in the morning because my voice is in better shape then.

I like to mix and master in the afternoon because no one's here but me and I can make as much noise as I want.

I like to track at night with headphones because the alternative is watching some lame TV show.

I like to review the previous day's work first thing in the morning because my ears and head are clearest then. I lay in bed and plug in my in-ear monitors. It's also a good excuse not to get out of bed right away.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.
