New computer memory

I am building a new i7 machine. I am planning to stick with windows XP until 7 comes out. My question is I know that XP can access far less memory than 7 can, if I install 6gb memory now will XP just not use all of it or not work at all?
Also do all the Gigibyte socket 1366 boards use TI chips for firewire? I cannot seem to find any info on this.

Thanks for your help

Assuming you mean XP 32-bit, It will use 4GB of your 6GB installed. I have a gigabyte EX58-UD5, which has the TI chipset, tho I don't use firewire.

Given their track record (MS) - I wouldn't go jumping into Windows 7 anytime in the first year of release.

Wow! Thanks for the super fast reply. Sorry I did not include that I ment the 32 Bit version. That is the motherboard I was considering. XP has always been stable for me and until Windows 7 is proven good (from people running the beta it looks promising) I will stick to XP.

    Thanks again

I've run all the different combos of 32/64 XP/Vista etc. I do primarily multitrack audio recording - Sonar uses little RAM dealing with audio tracks. I get far and away the lowest latency, best stability highest degree of compatibility with good old 32-bit XP Pro (SP3) and Sonar 32 bit (with 64bit engine turned on).

Sounds like the way to go to me. My audio interface is an Echo AudioFire 8.
My current computer is a P4 3.2 Gig with 2 g memory I built about 5 years ago an it is starting to show it's age. I am looking foreward to having a faster computer.

Thanks for the info on memory and software configuration.
