Friendly Driver Names

I'm using a MOTU 24i and I have found and renamed all of my inputs. However, they are grouped together in stereo pairs by Sonar, so I'm seeing "1/2 Lef, 1/2 Right. 1/2 Stereo,' instead of just "1" and "2." Is there an option to split up the stereo pairs so it's easier to follow? Thanks.

Use the title of your post...friendly driver names. You can name them anything you want. So call 1/2 Left "Left" and 1/2 Right "Right" and 1/2 Stereo "Stereo." However you can remember which input corresponds to the driver name. Call them Kevin, Luigi, and Yolanda if you want. Most soundcards keep inputs together in stereo pairs to allow the flexibility of mono/dual mono/stereo inputs, but you can bypass that if need be by just naming them by what you have plugged in, which is what I do. So my 1/2 pair (instead of 1/2L, 1/2R and 1/2Stereo, for example) might be "SM57", "PODxt" and SM57andPODxt"...

I may not have explained myself clearly, or I might be really stupid and not understand a vital step that you are explaining. This is what I'm seeing:

I don't see an option to name the L & R seperately. Again, I might be missing something really obvious, so I apologize if I am.

    Thank you

No, your not missing anything. I know a number of forum members wish to be able to give friendly names independently of the stereo pairing. For instance, I wish I could name the Fireface inputs as follows:

    FF A 1 (for analog 1)
    FF A 2 (for analog 2)
FF A 1&2 (for the stereo pair)
    etc...

    But you can't.

It gets confusing when you have a lot of inputs when it refers to things in L/R terms. How many interfaces label the I/O as 1/2 Left, 1/2 Right, 3/4 Left, 3/4 Right, etc. How many people label patch panels this way. I'll answer that. None. Only Cakewalk, at least that I know of.

I believe people have put in feature requests. Here is where you can do it... http://www.cakewalk.com/Support/FeatureRequest.asp

This link is found in the sticky at the top of the Sonar forum under "Top: [FAQ] How to contact Cakewalk directly"

I couldn't find any newer threads regarding this, but I'm trying to figure out if it's now possible to name your inputs 1, 2, 3, 4, etc, as mono inputs instead of having Left Ch 1 and 2, Right Ch 1 and 2, etc. I'm using a PreSonus 24 that has a ton of inputs (like many of you) and it's tough to select from the long list of inputs when they're named with the Left/Right convention. I realize these are strereo drivers, but I'm hoping there is a way to make it easier on the eyes when selecting mono inputs. Thanks!

you should be able to use friendly names and just rename them 1, 2, etc. like you want.  have you tried that and not been able to or something?
