Anyone here use an AT4040 mic when recording acoustic guitar?

I'm playing around with recording acoustic guitar. I've got a pretty good sound using a Rode NT4, but I also have a AT4040 - and I've heard people say they use them in conjunction with other mics - I thought I'd try micing my guitar using the Rode and the AT.

I have never used the AT4040 and don't know where I should place the mic. I've been placing the Rode about 8 to 10 inches from the fourteenth fret - angled at the whole - seems to get a pretty good sound that way, but have no idea where to place the AT4040.

Anyone here have any experience doing this?

Thanks in advance for any help.

off the bridge. I use two Mojave Audio MA-100s, one off the bridge, and one off the 12th fret, close, about 6 inches. Works really well for me. And then a third direct out of the LR Baggs active Ibeam. Trying again to lay down an acoustic track this afternoon.

I've used an AT4033 for several years and have got some very good results with it about 8-12 inches away from the soundhole and angling up towards the neck.

Here's a link to AT's microphone support info.

Why not try setting up the mike at the same level as the guitar when you're standing up playing. Put on some closed back cans and move the guitar around. You might even want to record yourself with a commentary.

Then have a listen on your monitors and choose the position that sounds best to you. Hey, use the mid/side Rode AND the AT and see what happens!
