Blonde Ambition?

I'm working on one now that will actually have "a full choir", except I'm the choir? I even dressed up as a black chick to get in to the whole gospel feel for the high parts? Like method acting. And trust me, I don't look good in heels and bright spandex...

Days of editing these darn vocals :-( And it has piano, drums, bass, the whole 9 yards, so it will be another week or two.

Is anyone else working on something “ambitious?” Something outside the comfort zone? I hope this one comes out well.

I've been working on a tune that is about travelling out of bounds...with all "traditional" instruments. There are 2 sections of the song that are a total mess (I had a friend with a critical ear tell me it sounded like 4 songs all playing at once). That and my vocals are kinda rough. I was worried about taking it back to "formula", but had a breakthrough tonight. I may still need to redo the main vocal in it, but I just got a new Mackie interface, and have been meaning to try out the preamps. Anywho, during the section I speak of, there are 4 different guitar parts going, with a stereo panning filter on each track, going to a bus with a panning filter, going into a figure 8 pan that is reverbed to be subtle in the backround. It sounds wicked, but it's really hard to get it sitting right.

I'm stuck in the past, but my foot's tapping forward

    Yes.

I'm doing a magnum opus using concepts based on chaos theory pitched in ancient scales using pure sine waves overlaid to create seemingly random subharmonics and naturally occurring rhythms.

It's designed to generate a positive wave of energy which will save the world from it's imminent self-inflicted destruction.

The underlying motive however is that after I've managed this amazing feat of pulling mankind from the brink I figure that getting the hottest chicks from that point on will become like dynamite fishing for me.

It's working so far, borne out by the fact we're still here today. I would imagine this is totally down to my sole efforts. Don't thank me for it though (unless you ARE Kate Moss) the buzz I get from doing it is it's own reward.

We're trying to write a sort of concept album, based loosely on a storyline my wife (ands vocalist) has written.

But it's slow progress!!!!! I've got the bare bones of about 7/8 songs worked out - a lot of it is midi, but there'll be an awful lot of re-arranging and re-recording once I start to put real guitars etc down.

Good fun though. Whenever inspiration starts to wane on a particular song/section, just move on to another one.

Lyrics are my one true blind spot.

I am much better at revising and amending lyrics that are already written, much to my wife's chagrin!!!!

I am working on a new concept - instrumental free style rap. Like rap without the words.

I dont think it has been tried yet.

BTW - I remember a movie in the early 80s called Blonde Ambition. Not exactly a family movie.

Jon B--let me be the first to thank you, sir! Although that means we all have to get up and go to work again today...

I'm working on an orchestral piece and the more I do, the more I realize what I don't know about orchestras! (I know more about rodeos and I don't even ride a horse that much either!) lol But it sounds kinda pretty so hopefully that will satisfy those classical guys, who hopefully aren't frequenting this forum. lol (I mean, why the heck do they need so many instruments to play 5 notes at a time?? I don't get it! )

And Robby--believe me, I trust you on that one!

But isn't Rodeo an orchestral piece? Even though for some reason orchestral people say it Roe-DAY-oe. I hate that.

It might be. I rarely listen to classical music. But I agree--ro-day-o would NOT go over in Oklahoma! lol

I'm pretty sure you've heard Aaron Copland's Rodeo. It's used on the "Beef, it's what's for dinner" commercials.

I couldn't find the commercial, but here's a HS orchestra playing "Rodeo" which they use part of for the "beef, it's what's for dinner" commercials.

Ouch, I did that once too. 15 years later (and a divorce) and I still hear about it. We recorded it with another singer so she could not change it if she wanted too. My bad!

IMHO it's better with the chage and I was the producer.

I downloaded all of the source tracks from Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody (google for them if you are also curious about doing this), and I am one at a time replacing them (blasphemy!) with my own Sonar recorded tracks. Talk about a behemoth of a task / mix. But kinda fun. Wish me luck.
