Strange issue while recording vocals - 8.3 related?

Probably not, but I did the 8.3 upgrade yesterday and I've never seen the issue I had today. I did a bit of searching on the forum, but didn't find anything.

My rig: Dedicated Dual Core AMD Athlon 6000 with 2GB memory. Interface is a week-old Profire 610, ASIO, etc. Latency around 5.8. Windows XP SP2. Audio stored in separate internal drive.

Project has roughly 30 tracks. I was using Sonitus Reverb plug on the vocal track, and only one or two other plugs used during tracking. I was using Input Monitoring for headphone monitoring but not experiencing any audio glitches - seemed to be running smoothly. After a number of takes the GUI began reacting very slow - the audio signal would "draw" late, the channel meters "stuttered", the pointer line staggered and lagged behind - everything was reacting very slow. HOWEVER, the audio itself was tracking just fine. Recording went fine. CPU never went over 50% and disk util. was low too. I've not experienced the GUI reacting slow.

I have had several crashes recently - so the DAW isn't in pristine running shape. I think the crashes are related to some sort of conflict between BFD2 and Edirol Orchestral. (Anyone else seen problems between these two plug-ins? But that's another post)

Anybody had the GUI blowing chunks but the audio running smoothly? Any help or input would be appreciated.

Did you try rebooting the system? If so, did it show the same behavior? (The slow GUI issue, not the crashes).

I've just come on the forum because my inspector seems to have frozen on a bus. Selecting tracks doesn't update the inspector. Was recording about 12 takes one after another when it happend. I would expect a reboot to sort it.

Try pushing the pause/break button on you keyboard(usually on the top right area). Pushing it causes sonars visuals to go slow so that recources are saved. Pushing it again while in the project should alleviate the slow visuals.

There is a switch to lock the Inspector View on a particular track or bus. I can't remember what the command is at this time.

Thanks Dave - that could well be it.

Couldn't find any switch to lock the inspector in the documentation. Rebooted and inspector was still frozen on a bus but selecting another bus from the drop down output list then reselecting the original bus got things back to normal

Let's see if I can hijack my thread back :-)

Thank you for the suggestions. I did reboot yesterday when I was having the issues and nothing changed - but I haven't been able to get back on my DAW after reading your suggestion re: the pause/break key. I'll do that here in a short bit.

Dono - 1 - try deleting your picture cache - this could well resolve thew slow drawing etc.

2 - BFD2 is a hungry beast at the best of times - are you running your samples in at 16 or 24 bit? If 24, try it at 16 and see if this helps.

Also, when you come to bounce your drums down to audio, there is an "off line" button at the very bottom left area of the plug near the performance meter, turn that on right before you export/bounce your drum tracks, but don't leave it on any other time

hehehe... I'll say this gingerly - I made sure the pause/break key was disengaged and everything ran smoothly. It appears that was the issue and I really appreciate the suggestion. So everything appears good for now.

So, you are entitled to $100.00. From somebody :-)
