do you have the m-audio vista 64 drivers downloaded and installed from the m-audio website? they've only been available as public release for a few weeks.

yea i have all the drivers downloaded it works good..and see at first i had a beringer mixer with phantom power hooked up directly to my laptop and i thought it was sounding muffled so i went and bought the m audio fast track pro thinking it would help the issue out but i get the same results...it basically sounds compressed..i think its something with the settings

yeah - if you're hooking the behringer mixer directly to your laptop - where is the m-audio fast track pro? we need more details on EVERYTHING you have connected and HOW it's connected.

So, you had the mixer, but it wasn't sounding good, so you changed to a new M-Audio interface. The mixer is out of the picture? Or are you still using the mixer, plugged into the M-Audio? condenser mic Does the Fast Track have phantom power?

Make sure the sampling rate and bit depth of MC and whatever audio interface you use match. MC defaults to 44.1 kHz and 16-bit. Many interfaces default to 48 kHz and 16-bit. Go ahead and disable the onboard sound card. Sometimes they like to try to process the sound at the same time as your chosen device, and noise happens.

im not using the mixer at the moment...my fast track is hooked directly into my laptop by usb connection...i really believe that its something with a setting.... how i have it hooked up is ok..everything records fine...it just seems like some type of compressed effect is in each track making everything muffled..and to mention also that i put no effects in any tracks..if it were a setting that i should change what do u think it could be?....

What is your reference for the "compressed" sound you are getting? The laptop speakers, headphones on the laptop, amped output?

now f it would stop skipping Try changing the I/O Buffer size in 'Options>Audio>Advanced'. Plus, if you know what you did to fix your previous problem, posting how you did it here will increase our knowledge base.

to fix the muffled sound i just disabled my onboard sound card and tweaked a couple settings cant really remember whatelse..i just took all of your advise....but i changed my buffer size plenny of times...but it seems like it doesnt even matter it still skips badly..before i get dont 4bars in a verse it skips then cuts out....i need to know something else to do with my settings...should the latency be more toward fast or slow?

If you are using the fast track pro use the ASIO drivers and set the latency in the M-Audio applet window to 256 to start and see what that does, if it works good move down to 128 and see, that ought to do 'er
