Movie recommendation: Cadillac Records
I'm a sucker for rock 'n roll biopics. Even the smarmy ones like "La Bamba". But I recently watched one that took me by surprise: Cadillac Records.
It's the more-or-less true story of the Chess label in Chicago in the 40's and 50's, where artists such as Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Etta James and Chuck Berry recorded some of rock 'n roll's most enduring hits.
The film features some good music - not enough of it, though, but what's included is excellent. It also paints a fairly realistic 1950's world (a fun game is to see how many gear anachronisms you can spot).
If you ever doubted that Beyonce Knowles is indeed the Real Deal, her performance in this film should remove all doubt. Her rendition of "I'd Rather Go Blind" is absolutely killer.
All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.
