Trying out a country tune...

...to cover... It's a 70's classic by Glenn Campbell called "Rhinestone Cowboy". I changed the arrangment/style a bit to serve my lack of talent ...My ears a re a bit toasted after mixing this one , wondering how it sounds to some fresh ears....

Yeah, I didn't get a country vibe from this :-) The original is quite good! A classic in fact, this was an interesting twist :-)

Thanks for listening Robby...yeah, I'm not really a country guy, although I can definetly appreciate the enormous talents of guys like Glenn Campbell...I just like having fun filtering these kinda tunes thru my twisted brain!

What happened to the country? GREAT original punk version of this tune. Nice job on the vox and harmonies. Love the tones and performance on the guitars. I like the delay effect used at the ending, nice. The mix all in all sounds rich and full. You have to give Glenn his props he could play that guitar. GREAT JOB!

    I like it!
Music can be a lot of things but I especially like it when it is fun and this song was fun. This song reminded me of the Sex Pistols (but with talent), espcially the ending. The Pistols were fun also.
Thanks for posting this song, I enjoyed it.

Excellent! Much better than the original ... every cowboy (and cowgirl) should be compelled to appreciate this ballad.

Not what I was expecting.... I was pondering the thought process that went into this.... Nice "Ritchy Blackmore" lead in there.... pure Deep Purple.....

    The recording was good.

Now.... a nice Neal Sedaca tune as a follow up.... or maybe some Carpenters....

drumstixkev - Thanks Kev! Yeah I have seen some killer playing by him on youtube....I think I also read he did a lot of session work in the 60's for bands like The Beach Boys....Thanks for listening!

    Mamabear - Thanks Mamabear...appreciate it!

Freddy J - My thoughts exactly...I really have a lot of fun trying to put a diffrent spin on songs I grew up hearing (over and over) Huge Pistols fan ...always loved there covers like "Steppin' Stone" ...Thanks for listening, glad ya dug it!!

Philip - Ha! not sure about better, but definetly diffrent ..Glad ya liked it...thanks!

Guitarhacker - Yup, was definetly thinking Ritche Blackmore and Andy Scott (The Sweet) for the solo...don't play my strat much latly, so when I do, usually end with whammy bar madness...both Neil Sedaka and The Carpenters have some killer songs/arrangments that would be fun to try...I actually had a CD called "If I Were A Carpenter" that was all Carpenter covers by like 90's alt rock bands...good stuff! Thanks for checking it out!

No How I do want to retrack the bass guitar part...not happy with a few spots and agree about the tone...thanks for the feedback, glad it brought a laugh !

ed_mcg Thanks Ed, I remember hearing this one and a song called "Southern Nights" by him over and over when I was a kid...It was kind of theraputic do do this version of the song .

thepogue - Thanks bud! Glad ya dug it!!

That was beyond entertaining! You are a disturbing artist. And that is very much a complement.

Thanks for surprising me with a rendition I would have never expected.

Ha Ha, loved it. Sounded a bit like the Dead Kennedys sings Glen Campbell. The guitars sound well recorded and great tone and playing. What equipment are you using for that? This brightened my day.

Btw, love you're avatar as i'm a big early 70's Genesis fan.

Thanks blipp! I used a Fender Strat+ deluxe and a Variax (les paul model) for the rthym guitars, strat for the solo, bass was a Rickenbacker 4001...evreything thru a podxtlive, recorded with GTPro3...drums were session loops from Simon Phillips collection.
Yup, you probably cant tell from this song, but Genesis (especially Gabriel years) is my favorite band...thanks for listening and commenting, I appreciate it!

Great stuff as usual with a very cool twist, some nice playing too, cool vocal work too. I always enjoy tweaked covers, we do that a lot in a cover band I play in, use a popular melody and warp it. Sweet.

that was great and the ending was killer, you have one twisted brain but damn if you don`t come up with some wicked stuff.
