Lay Down & Die

Thought this was kind of catchy.. Little rough with not many takes on the vocals but I kind of like the whatever happens feel.. break definitely needs help... otherwise simple bass guitar and drumloop thing..

Lay Down & Die

Thanks,
Dave

Old Rockers never die, they just...

    um...

never die do they? This did not lay down and die either.

Well done, even for a rough mix.

    Hello Dave,

Yes....it is very catchy. Nice song and good vox.....i think the mix is in need of some beefy mids to flesh it out a bit.

    Drums sound quite nice.

Good rocker. Maybe a touch too much delay on the rhythm guitar.

Is that a Jazz bass? Nice meaty / grinding tone.

Definitely a catchy little tune, I like the rhythms from the drums, especially in the verse.

Yup, this is a nice Rock'n'Roller ... Nice Guitar tone! Bass and Drums sound mighty fine as well. Vocals are Great !!
Sometimes hard to make out the words, though!

Wow, those single notes (Guitar) are really potent, aren't they!!!!!

Great tune, thanks for sharing this one.

Hey Dave, long time no see! When I first started coming here you were often posting tunes, and I always liked 'em. I like this one too, great stuff. I like the Andy Summers-ish rhythm guitar, the syncopated drums and the gruff vocal. Tasty track Dave, don't leave it so long next time!

Had a bit of a 70's vibe for me which is no bad thing. The guitars sound fantastic both the tone and the playing. I liked the drums a lot too. What guitar and amp did you use? Great rockin' track.

That was a GREAT tune. The mix is bright and clean. The performance on the guitar and the tones are awesome sounding. A little to much verb on the vox for me. All in all this is one solid performance and song.

Yeah... ditto... this is a god job... I like the vox.... gritty.... the song sounded like the levels were "pumping" maybe just me.... like a heavy compressor breathing....especially in the choruses,

it will sound good though when you finish it....

    fox:
thanks for the listen and yeah, I guess this stuff keeps us from getting too old anyway.. he he

    no how:
glad you liked it.. I tend to scoop out too much in the final sometimes.. still learning that delicate edge..

    Ed:
depending on what I am listening on, I agree the guitar seems a little spacy.. no jazz bass, just a mid-line schecter.. nice bass though..

    heckxx:
yep, the syncopation in the verse made me keep working on it initially.. thanks for the comments..

tap: thanks for the listen and comments.. like pappy said, play 'em one at a time, but play 'em often..

james: yes, trying to get back to more recording time.. work has slowed so now is my chance.. thanks for your comments.. I gotta find what you all have been up too in the posts..

blipp: glad you liked it.. I actually use amplitube.. no amp/no noise=happy wife..

kev: thanks for taking a listen.. i have a slight delay on the vocal, but no verb (I think)..

ghacker: that chorus pumping sometimes creeps out on different systems I have noticed.. the dynamics of the parts lend to it somewhat.. Still trying to figure out how you make a final piece sound good on every system you hear it on..

    Hey Dave,

Nice job with this. Mix is nice and tight already. Vocals are good too. Only small crit would be between the guitar sound and bass, it's a little boomy, really nothing bad, just a little.

    Great stuff otherwise mate!

    Thanks JudZ,

The monitors I use are lacking in bass, so when it sounds good on the mix, it is usually too much elsewhere.. Something I need to change..

Hey, I like this! I am lovin' my new speakers. No more CWS (somebody said that's crummy work speakers). This sounds full. You are a rocker!! I'm kinda familiar with rock. Played bass with Nugent in the late sixties. That classifies me as an "old" rocker. I think that's only like the second time I mentioned that because it doesn't matter!. It's because something there made me reminisce! Thanks!

    Warren,

Thanks for the thumbs up.. I think if I had played with Nugent back in the day, I would tell everyone... Definitely one of my guitar heroes when was growing up..

i don't say it much because he and some of the other "famous" people I played with don't return calls. I wonder if I would! I would have liked to find out!

Wow, that's two in a row, really hot tunes from you... You have like a 3 doors down style? Which is a good thing? Because I really love that band... I'd like to maybe hear the vox just a bit better on this one. Excellent song!

    james,
thanks for the listen.. my stage days were long ago, but who knows.. always loved it.. just no time anymore.. that why I love this stuff..

    robby,
thanks again.. I discovered everyone has a style.. it usually just needs developed.. I try to write stuff that fits my vocal ability, which some might question fromtime to time.. including me..

Love it. Great rockin' song. I liked the vocal -- it had an edge that complemented the edge that I felt with the instrumentation. The lead guitar work was good -- I particularly liked that almost synchopated touch that you gave to it in parts of the song. I am trying to learn about mixing myself, but the mix sounded good to me.

I guess I got a bit of a different take on this song that the others commenting on it. I felt that it had a bit of a grunge touch to it and the vocals gave it a little edge toward a Nirvana-esque kinda sound. In my book that's good.
