Old Instruments & Plug-Ins in Sonar 8

I have just installed S8 on a new machine - leaving DR-008, Timeworks EQ and Compression and other stuff from Sonar 2 behind on my ancient PC.

My question is...as these instruments and plug-ins were installed as part of the Sonar 2 install on my old machine - how can I use them with Sonar 8 on my new one?

The only way I can think of doing it is installing Sonar 2 on my new machine in order to get the plug-ins etc.

Any ideas?

Tyn

Close. When you launch the Sonar installation disk, you'll get to a Select Components screen. Uncheck the application (and any other installed components that you don't want), and select only those plugins that you need. Be aware that if you install older versions of the same plugin, you may be overwriting a newer revision. (I'm thinking specifically of the MFX plugins in particular here.)

Thanks Brock - unfortunately none of the components I want are included in the Sonar 8 components list!

I didn't make myself too clear. You leave your most current installation intact (in this case, Sonar8). Then you insert the installation disks from the older version (Sonar 2). Use the Select Components screen from the older version to install those plugins that aren't currently included. To be honest, I'm sure that Sonar3 had a Select Components option, and I'm less sure about Sonar 2.

S2 does have the ability to load just the extras. Just remember to deselect "Program Files" to keep from installing S2.

Keep in mind that you'll probably need to dl and run the DirectXUtility to install from S2.

Not sure what you meant here....the install program wants to install Directx 8 first. I don't know what version of DirectX I have on my new machine (XP SP3), but I guess it's later than v8. I don't want to install v8 over what's there already do I?

The DirectXUtility doesn't install Directx 8 onto your DAW, it fools S2 into thinking that you have Directx 8 installed. Download from the link in my first post, run DirectXUtility and follow the instructions. You'll be fine.

Yes! Now you mention it bells start ringing in my head. I must have used the utility when I installed S2 all those years ago.

Sorry I didn't spot the link - must get my eyes tested.

You've saved me a load of work - next time you're visiting the UK, pop in for a nice cup of tea!

    Hi Phrauge-

I can't tell you how glad I was to find your post! I'm in the process of reinstalling everything, but I've gotten to the point where I only install what I know I'll need. The Timeworks plugins, yes.

    Thanks!

    Hi, Susan.

    Glad my post was helpful.

Yep, love those Timeworks plugs.  I still use them on many projects.
