Motu 828mk3 Latency Issue

I'm hoping to get some direction here with my new Motu 828mk3. All in all, I'm in love with it. However....I have a problem with latency. Example: I record a guitar track, no problem. I'm recording (for example) to the Left-Guitar/Mic In, then OUT to the Master. I go back and put a vocal track on it and when I listen to it on playback, the vocal is "late" coming in. No echo, just late as if I'm a beat or two behind. Has anyone figured out the ideal audio settings for this device or run into a similar problem? I love the features on this device. Incidentally all previously recorded projects (done on an Edirol FA-66) sound just fine on playback, but if I try to add a track to them I have the same problem. I've determined that it is not a problem with old projects recorded on a different device because I've created a new project from the ground up and the problem is still there.

Any help from you Motu gurus would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

Im not a big Motu guru however I did enjoy my FA66 and now have a motu 828mkII. Some questions you will need to answer are what driver are you using, driver version and which type of driver(wmd, asio etc). Also under the audio settings what does it say that your latency is?

    WDM or ASIO?

If ASIO are you manually adjusting the latency offset?

    Thanks for the input.

The original setup after I ran the Wave profiler was 92.9 msec, 4096 samples. I matched this in the Motu Audio Console. No good. I dragged the bar all the way to the left to 23.2 msec, 1024 samples, it seemed to very SLIGHTLY improve, but still no good. I'm using WDM/KS drivers, the very latest downloaded yesterday from Motu. They were later than the original ones I had on the disk that came with the device. Buffers for I/O are both set to 256.

Windows Vista, 4 GB DDR 1200 DRAM, Sonar Producer 8.31 running on it's own SATA drive, I never had a lataency issue with the Edirol, used it for 3 years. I once also had an MAudio Firewire 310 hooked up for a bit with no problems either.

Since you are using vista I am not sure which drivers will be best for the motu however you should be able to get the latency down to at least 10ms with a 44.1 sampling rate. You may want to try the waspi and or asio drives to see what works best with your system.
I have a laptop with vista on it that I am presently setting up to run and I am still experimenting to find the best settings, maybe someone else has some more/better insight in what they have found to be the "best" settings for a system with vista+sonar+motu

Well thanks to all for your input.

I have owned an MAudio Firewire 410, an Edirol FA-66, and now the Motu 828mk3. I've used the WDM drivers for all of them, with the exception (now) of the Motu. After switching over to ASIO drivers, my problem seems to be solved. I've never had to use ASIO drivers before. I sent Motu support an email asking them if there was anything I could do to tweak the WDM drivers so they'd work. I've tried every adjustment I can think of.

I do REALLY like this device and what it offers, I'm hoping to be able to use the drivers I'd like to use. Can anyone more knowledgeable about this than me point out what advantages / disadvantages these different drivers would offer under the Motu device? Thanks.

And thanks again for everyone's input.

I've found that different systems respond differently to asio or wdm: so I have systems that work better in one or the other. That being said, Mike's reply is a good one to consider. I have to tweak my system with this. About a year ago there was a whole thread about latency offset and how to figure it out. I'll look and see if I can find it. Maybe a search will turn it up.
