Anyone tried the new phenomII platform?

Hi I'm thinking of upgrading from my old AMD4200+ 2.2 dual. I looked around and got my eye on the new Phenom II 940 3.0 gh quad.
For 270$ it is a steal! And the specs look good also. I was woundering if anyone here already tried it.
Thanks

Phenom II is excellent for the money. They generally perform toe to toe with the Intel Core 2 Quads in general tasks, and will outperform them in large sample bank performance.

Intel I7 spanks it performance wise... but costs a whole lot more

    As a point of reference:
The top end PhenomII is just a smidge faster than the Q6600.

Well, the Phenom II 940 runs at 3.0 mhz as for the q6600 runs at 2.4. Phenom has a bigger cache, a faster throughput... I would say that it resembles more the q9650. From what I've heard, it's basically a q9650 at the price of a Q9700

I just picked up an Intel Q9400 for $179.00 at Microcenter (in store pickup only) and coupled with my Asus P5Q SE2 board and 4 G 1066 Crucial RAM it was a great budget system that seems very fast to me.

    the answer is
IF you have a motherboard that can take the newer Phenom 940 then yes
if you have to buy a motherboard/processor and ram then NO.
the price diff is minimal and the preformance loss is not worth the $150 or so.
