If you want a speed demon (10k RPM), you could consider Western Digital's Velociraptor:

But it's only 300gb and quite pricey for its size (meaning with the same $$$ you could probably buy a couple terabytes...)

In truth, you don't need anything that blazing fast, a good 7200 RPM SATA (or e/SATA, if you need one more...) drive will do.

This is a good source to buy drives. Read the reviews, they're averagely pretty reliable.

Good advice. Just stay away from the "Green" line from WD. Cheaper, uses less power, etc... I'm all for being green, but this drive uses variable speed (5400-7200rpm) which I'm pretty sure is not a good thing for a DAW (Actually, my first clue that something was amiss with this model was the overall mediocre user ratings - 3 out of 5, where other drives usually rated 4 to 5).

SonarPlat/CWbBL, Win 10 Pro, i7 2600K, Asus P8Z68 Deluxe, 16GB DDR3, Radeon HD5450, TC Electronic Impact Twin, Kawai MP11 Piano, Event ALP Monitors, Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro, Too Many Plugins, My lucky hat.
