Musician's brainwaves

Among the email lists/websites/forums I'm a member of is Dr. Andrew Weil's site for health as one of many resources I'm using in my cancer recovery. I get daily and weekly email alerts on varying health-related subjects. Got this one about musician's brain waves being in tune when they play with one another. The story is available at: http://www.drweil.com/drw/u/WBL02137/Musicians-Brain-Waves-Are-Also-in-Tune.html It's the top story on the page.

this info reminds me of those times when i would be taking a
solo on the guitar and at the end of the solo wake up as if from
a dream. sometimes the band members would be looking at me
as if to say was that you playing?

like i played far above my skill level. It didnt happen very often.
but when it did i was shocked at the performance. ive seen others
do that too. and in case anyone wonders I was sober and no drugs
were involved. it is amazing what the mind can do and how it
    interacts with others.

Interesting. The closest thing I've ever had to a Zen kind of experience was on the nights when my band was really cooking. At some point it was like everybody was locked into the moment, feeling and anticipating every move together. For a little while, all conscious thought just disappeared as everybody grooved to the music. At those times, it seemed like the audience was locked in too. I wonder what our brain waves would have showed if somebody had been monitoring them all.

Fish and birds moving about in a school have a shorter reaction time than individuals *not* moving about in a school.

This is a well-known, but not entirely understood phenomenon.

Thanks for the kind words. Music is one of the things that's helping to keep me sane through this whole thing; one of the others is working with my model trains. Biggest sanity helper is my wife who's been there every step of the way - she is the one encouraging me to follow my museeven at my age (57).
    Cheers all.

    You're very welcome Jack!

I find it sometimes hard to reply to something like the situation you're in and maybe I don't always use the right words as English is not my native language.

But that's is enough about me, I wish you and your wife all the best and a long life together!!!

Good to see a kindred spirit, Jack.
I'm a train buff myself. I'm modeling the Rio Grande Southern in excrutiating detail. Drives my wife nuts to watch.
It's a great diversion, and remarkably therapeutic.
I don't want to hijack the thread, but drop me an email if you would like to talk or see some pics.
